Mission Statement
To create an integral society through sustained efforts by promoting wide range of economic growth for the people, who are unprivileged, reducing inequalities, raising basic standards of living, fostering equitable social development and promoting sustainable management of natural resources.
About This Cause
1) COMMUNITY-BASED REHABILITATION: Our CBR program supports 120 Specially Abled Children from diverse areas who require specialized care and attention. VSS works for these children's holistic development. 2) Medicines/Aids/Appliances for Specially Abled Children: Medicines, Aids, and Appliances provide major support in the development, accessibility, mobility, and enhancement of differently-abled children. VSS helps these children by providing according to the, • Need and requirement of the child • Family’s ability to support the child. 3) ADL training for Specially Abled Children: Most of the Specially Abled Children are fully dependent on their family members/caregivers for their daily activities. VSS aims at making these children independent in doing their activities of daily life. We provide • Training for eating • Training for bathing • Training for dressing • Training for toileting. 4) Supportive Therapies: Therapies are also an integral part of the development of Specially Abled Children. We make various therapies available to children through our mobile palliative care and by training parents. Various therapies include; • Physiotherapy • Speech therapy • Psychotherapy • Counselling for parents 5) Livelihood Training workshops for parents of Specially Abled Children: Many parents even though they are educated are not able to go to work due to their child’s condition. VSS provides an opportunity for these parents to acquire self-employment. We provide employment training according to the interest of parents and the activities covered are • Training for skill development • Training for effective production • Training for marketing • Training for effective management. 6) Interest-Free Loans: VSS provides Interest-free loans for the parents of Specially Abled Children to help them achieve self-sustainability to support their children. These loans are repaid with terms suitable by the beneficiary. VSS provides interest-free loans to • Start up new production units • For buying raw materials • For buying livelihood assets 7) Financial Aid: Education is important for a Specially Abled Child just as for every other child. VSS provides financial aid to support financially deprived children by providing • Financial assistance • Scholarships for talented children 8) Educational Advocacy: VSS conducts advocacy meetings with schools and parents of Specially Abled Children to • Ensure special care and activity plans are delivered to the child • Remind the importance of education in the child’s life. 9) Talent Fest: Talent Fest is a cultural event conducted once every year for the Specially Abled Children to showcase their talent and through the process improve their self-confidence and self-belief. Every year approximately 160-170 children from various special schools and communities participate in the event. The event contains • Creative cultural competitions with cash prizes. • Honoring a specially-abled individual who has made notable achievements/changes. • Complementary prizes for all participating children. 10) Awareness/Training programs: Vincentian Service Society conducts awareness/training programs for Specially Abled Children and their parents aiming at their development in all aspects. VSS has been providing awareness and training for stress management, diabetes, lifestyle, cancer, laws, rights, etc. 11) De Paul Housing Project: A safe and secure shelter is one of the basic rights of human beings. But for many people, this right is a dream. Many people’s houses are located in places vulnerable to natural calamities. Some people’s homes are partially destroyed. VSS identifies such houses and people who are not able to lift themselves from such conditions and • Built them new secure houses with basic facilities. • Renovate the existing houses and make them habitable. • Build/renovate toilets. 12) Livelihood: Earning for themselves helps to create an income platform and improve the dignity of human beings. many times various factors hinder this process. VSS aims to eradicate these factors and enable individuals/families according to their needs and skills to earn for themselves by • Building new shops/facilities for starting a business • Providing assets for livelihood • Providing financial support. • Support to livelihood lost due to natural calamities/pandemic 13) Food kits for the homeless: There are many homeless people who wander around the city unable to work and sleep below bridges, railway stations & bus stops, etc., for such people and for people who are not able to make one day’s meal, VSS provides food kits. This initiative is to provide nutritious food to people who are unable to provide for themselves. 14) Marriage assistance: Many families are not able to earn enough for the marriage of their loved ones. VSS supports those families by providing support for their marriage and to have a healthy family life. 15) Geriatric care: Old age is a stage of the human life cycle which needs special care and attention. VSS aims to provide this care for the holistic development of seniors by • Regular monthly meeting • Physical and mental activities • Conducting health camps. • Indoor and outdoor recreational activities • Brainstorming sessions • Awareness and informative sessions. 16) Awareness Generation Programmes: Generating awareness is the method through which changes can be bought into the lives and minds of people. Vincentian Service Society conducts awareness programs at the community level on selected important dates and depending on the social issues prevailing in the community. 17) Emergency response program: An emergency response program is initiated to respond to emergencies like natural calamities and pandemics. VSS through this program provides, • Assistance for building/renovating destroyed infrastructure • Distribute prevention/provision/relief kits • Awareness generation/training • Rehabilitation services • Take additional measures according to the need of the community and the nature of the disaster. The emergency response program was a huge success during the landslide and flood. Now the program is actively functioning in response to COVID-19. 18) Women Empowerment: Women are a vulnerable section of society who possess extreme abilities to make huge changes in society. VSS conducts programs to equip women to achieve this. For this purpose, VSS conducts, • Livelihood training programs • Livelihood assistance • Educational assistance • Marriage assistance • Awareness generation, skill development programs, and camps 19) Medical Assistance: Many chronic and severe health conditions disrupt the life of the individual as well as the family. These health conditions have the ability to wholly drain every resource of the family. For such individuals, VSS extends our services by: • Providing medicinal assistance • Providing dialysis assistance • Assistance for minor and major surgeries • Assistance for chemotherapy (Cancer patients) • Assistance for chronic heart patients etc. 20) Mobile Palliative Care: Our mobile palliative care team works in remote rural areas where transportation is difficult. Service is delivered to all categories of people including differently abled, and senior citizens without any kind of discrimination. We conduct over 150 house visits and cover 4 old age homes every month by delivering; • Medical support • Equipment, Aids, Appliances • Psychological support • Therapies 21) Community Medical Camps: Early detection and prevention are the best practices in health. For this purpose, VSS conducts 3-4 community health camps every year. These camps help for • Awareness generation • Prevention of diseases • Early detection of diseases. Some camps conducted by the organization are; Mental Health Screening and Awareness camps, Life Style Diseases Awareness and Detection camps, AIDS Awareness and Screening Camp, Cancer Awareness and Screening camps, etc. 22) COVID-19 Emergency Relief Programme: Covid-19 pandemic has struck the world hard and it has adversely affected all aspects of human life. Our Covid-19 emergency response program aims to • Generate awareness of COVID • Eradicate the misconceptions • Prevention against COVID by providing emergency relief kits. 23) DePaul Continuing Education Programme. The De Paul Continuing Education Project (DCEP) is one of the Vincentian Service Society's educational undertakings. This provides an opportunity for financially deprived students to continue their education at the same time • Developing their character • Teaching them skills and knowledge • Creating a sense of security There are 85 students who are part of this education program 24) Rev. Fr. Varkey Kattarath Memorial Scholarship (VKMS): The VKMS scholarship aims to provide a smoother, expanded education to the meritorious and gifted students who were unable to continue their studies owing to a lack of financial support. 102 students are benefiting from this project.
