About This Cause
Ek Pahel B.R. Memorial Welfare Society is an Indian Non-Governmental Organisation, set up with the vision to illuminate the future of underprivileged children, youth and women of India and transform them to be responsible future leaders. Founded in 2009, in the outskirts of Agra – the city of Taj Mahal, to have a deep impact on the lives of rural and semi-urban underprivileged citizens. The NGO is established under Societies Registration Act, 1860 (registration no. 1539) by a team of youngsters in Agra who had the zeal to transform the lives of the less fortunate. Our major projects include: "Prakashpunj" -We at Ek Pahel believe that ‘Quality Education’ is a key to empower children and remove poverty in a single generation. With the aim to impart and catalyze education among underprivileged children, we started a project ‘Prakashpunj’ where we provide free of cost quality education to 750 students at our school. We also provide one time meal to the students, provide schooling supplies, provide resources and opportunities for skill development and sensitize children and their families about the need and ‘Importance of Education and lll Effects of Child Labour’ through nukad natak. -"NCLP – Special Training Centre"- The center rehabilitates children from minority and marginalized background previously engaged in child labour and prepare them for mainstream education. In the second stage we impart quality education to them through our project Prakashpunj. -"School on Wheels"- The main motive behind this unique project is to provide functional literacy and civic sense to the children dwelling in slum areas or the wards of construction labourers who are deprived of education. We gather children of a particular slum engaged in child labour to conduct a class in their locality. 5 locations in Agra city are covered in this project impacting over 300 lives. We bring teachers at the doorsteps of these educationally deprived children wherever we find them. -"Sehat Ka Aangan"- The first key to happiness lies in the corridors of good health. In order to endow children and women with the happiness, we initiated a project called ‘Sehat ka Aangan’. Under the project we conduct the following activities: Create health and hygiene awareness amongst students and women through skits and nukad nataks Vaccinate children for common and major diseases including BCG, Polio, MMR, Hepatitis B, and DPT Conduct regular health campaigns focusing on preventive as well as curative treatment of children and women Organise Adolescent health education and counseling and distribute free sanitary pads every month Provide needed medication and pathological support Organise blood donation camps Organize pediatrics and surgery camps for poor women Started a charitable healthcare centre and dispensary for poor people. -Pratibha Darpan- With the aim to recognize and promote creative talent of underprivileged children, we organize skill development classes, hobby classes, workshops for the children. We also organize competitions like dancing, poetry recitation, drawing and painting, taekwondo, etc., and send the children to inter-school competitions. -Jagrati Ek Pahel believes that creating awareness on social issues is a primary step towards eradicating it. With this belief we create awareness on issues impacting children and women such as ‘Child Labour’, ‘Child Trafficking’, ‘Domestic Violence’, ‘Gender Discrimination’ through rallies, nukad nataks and chairty runs. -Niyojit Parivar, Khushaal Aangan The size of a family directly impacts its financial condition and consequently the overall well-being of the children, women, families and communities at large. Therefore, to ensure a better life to children and women, we initiated the project ‘Niyojit Parivar - Khushaal Aangan’. Under the project we Sensitize poor families about the alarming need of small families Conduct Family planning counseling sessions by specialists Sponsor voluntary sterilization and tubectomy in association with eminent hospitals Equip poor couples with contraceptive methods/tools to prevent unintended pregnancies, maternal and infant deaths and enable women to limit births to their healthiest childbearing years -Swabhiman Ek Pahel believes that the best way to help vulnerable children is to strengthen the social and economic capacities of their families and communities. We provide training to poor and needy women to help them earn a livelihood and ameliorate the financial condition of their families by an additional source of income. We also provide legal aid and counseling to women facing domestic violence or dowry issues at home through Pukar Counseling Cell and provide vocational training and assist in employment in the following areas: Stitching, Knitting, Beautician, Dona Making, Henna Designing, Candle and Soap Making -Vipda Prabandhan The project aims to provide relief and restore services in times of emergencies. The inception of the project was done during Covid 19 pandemic when people’s health and livelihoods were devastated and there was dire need for people and organizations to come forward to help people suffering.
