Cultural classes on music and dance 3. Women empowerment programs to train and give job opportunities 4. Other Services - Poor feeding (Annadhanam), Financial assistance for education and marriage. Medical Charities. A 4 level, 30 bedded hospital—Sivashantha Mother and Child Health Centre has been constructed with the help of donations from members and philanthropists.. Through our 3 months to 3 years program, we provide quality health care to mothers and children from 3 months of conception till 3 years of age. We see about 60-80 patients in our out- patient department every day. Services, lab tests and medicines are given either free or on heavily subsidized rates. The treatment is personalized, taking into account the physical, psychological, social and environmental background of the patient. We also have a holistic health program which treats chronic diseases with complementary methods such as ayurveda, yoga, naturopathy etc. More than 1180 deliveries have been conducted over the last 6 years and the value of charity in the form of subsidy and sponsorship has crossed 20 million INR. The centre is run on “Pay what you can” principle and we accept whatever the patient is able to pay. Women Empowerment It is common knowledge to health service planners that improvements in the socio economic status would bring about more health benefits than mere medical treatment. Under Shivanjali Creative Arts and Crafts Unit women are encouraged to learn a skill and job opportunities are provided. There are four income generating schemes . 1. Tailoring and hand embroidery unit 2. Pickle, spice and snack making unit. 3. A Multi cuisine Café 4. Aroma Therapy Centre The unit has trained over 600 women and employs 10% of them currently Nurturing the Performing Arts Temple of Fine Arts International was started with the guiding principle, “Art, just for the love of it “. It is Swamiji’s teaching that music, dance and arts are one more path to the divine and that there should be no barrier preventing the quest for the performing arts. Underprivileged, deserving students are given scholarships to study here. The Temple of Fine Arts is recognized as an organization committed to the promotion of art and culture and we have brought out various grand productions that speak about the dedication of the teachers and students. Music and dance are taught with the spirit of making beautiful humans out of those who come to us. Promoting Visual Arts Swamiji wished to nurture India’s Arts and Artisans and we strive to continue His vision through our Craft Centre—Lavanya. Annalakshmi and Annadhanam [poor feeding] Annalakshmi at Shivanjali continues to feed people under a’Eat as you wish and pay what you feel’ method. Needless to say this is run on sheer faith and love. The challenges faced are many. Besides this, everyday annadhanam (Poor feeding) is done for about 50 to 60 people. Education aid is given to poor children every year. Many of the children have been adopted up to college education and are placed in good jobs. Serving through Prayer Every Sunday morning Swamiji’s devotees all over the world, called the “Shiva Family”, meet to recite prayers together. The group offers prayers for the well being of others, especially the sick and needy and world peace. We believe that prayer is a true form of service that we can give to others and that collective prayers are powerful. Printing Inspirational Books Through our Printing Press we attempt to disseminate Swamiji’s teachings and inspire more people to lead a spiritual life.
