Mission Statement
To make India Thalassemia free by controlling the birth of Thalassemia Major by 2027
About This Cause
Thalassemia is a dreaded blood disorder where Red Blood Cells are defective and the body is not able to produce enough hemoglobin. Thalassemia is passed on to the child by the Parents if both the parents are Thalassemia Minors/Carriers/Trait. There are 25% chances in each pregnancy to get the disease Thalassemia Major child. Thalassemia patients have to survive on repeated blood transfusions and costly medicines. All Patients can not afford the treatment due to which they suffer from transfusion reactions and other complications like spleen enlargement, liver damage, and cardiac problems. Due to repeated blood transfusions they are highly iron-overloaded and are facing complications like short stature, poor growth, delayed or missed puberty, diabetes, etc. problems. They are just waiting for their untimely early death. NTWS is working for the Care and control of this disease. NTWS provides free and subsidized medicines and blood Filter, Infusion Pumps to poor patients. We need funds to support the treatment of poor patients and also with Bone Marrow Transplant. NTWS organizes Blood donation Camps for safe blood supply, and Thalassemia Screening Camps in Schools, Colleges, Corporate Offices, and Religious, Public, and Residential places to prevent this disease.
