Mission Statement
Vision: To create a Beggar Free India: A Nation in which no citizen seeks for alms and gives alms for undignified lifestyle. Mission: To engage youth and student volunteers towards social causes with responsibility and inspiration to change the ill affairs seen in society such as beggars, drug addicts, health hazards like alcoholics and tobaccos, etc. To make effective intervention through awareness among youth and common people about the plights of beggars and destitute people for sustainable models of livelihood and employment including self-employment. To survey the beggars, provide counselling, rehabilitate the beggars, mentally ill, destitute, disabled, aged persons including women, dying destitute, mentally retarded, physically challenged, drug-addicted, sexually abused women, etc. To establish Rehabilitation Homes, Skills Training and Livelihood Centre with basic Medical Facilities. To undertake effective awareness campaigns through volunteers across the Tamil Nadu to reach out to massive number of beggars for rehabilitation. To sensitize the policy makers, governments, corporate sector, national and international government organizations and United Nations organizations, etc. To work with government departments like Police, social justice and empowerment, education, health and family welfare, labour and employment etc. towards addressing the plights of beggars and destitute people.
About This Cause
Atchayam Trust is a registered non-governmental organization based at Erode, was established by National Youth Awardee by Govt. of India and State Youth Awardee by Govt. of Tamilnadu, a Visionary youth Mr.P.Naveenkumar,ME in 2014 with an ultimate objective to create a Beggar Free India. Atchayam Is Actively strive with a holistic approach to Rehabilitation and transform the lives of Beggars, Homeless, Destitute People, Mentally Ill, old aged people, Dying Destitute, Substance abuse Across TamilNadu by Undertaking Several Sustainable Initiatives. We undertake field work for Survey and identification, Provision of Medical, counselling, Rescue and rehabilitation towards the transformation of them into dignified life with respects. We are very passionate and dedicated youth determined to bring social change in the society through the Atchayam Beggars Rehabilitation and Skill Development Centre. We Are Concretely Working in The Areas of Rehabilitation, Skill Development, Job Placement in Private Sectors, Reunion with Family, creating Self-Sustainable livelihood to the homeless beggars, Social Integration of the Beggars and Homeless People. Since 2014, we have provided counseling to around 11400 beggars and successfully rehabilitated 1410 of them and helped them lead a better life with dignity in society. Our mission is to provide equitable and dignified life to vulnerable communities, including homeless beggars, elderly, the person with disabilities, person with mental illness, and destitute individuals. Our flagship initiative, Atchayam Home, is under construction in Nasiyanur, and it will provide comprehensive care and rehabilitation to over 200 people, which is a PAN India model. Currently, Atchayam operates Atchayam Beggars Rehabilitation Home in Solarpudhur and a shelter for homeless in Gobichettipalayam, in collaboration with NULM-Erode City Municipal Corporation and NULM-Gobichettipalayam Municipality respectively and ECRC (Emergency Care & Recovery Centre), Perundurai in collaboration with the Institute of Mental Health Care, The Banyan and National Health Mission. Together, these shelters accommodate 90 individuals. We have also been constantly involved in creating awareness among the youth and public about beggars, homeless and their related issues in life and work in society- 80,000 student’s volunteers directly reached and 70,000 general publics’ were reached. Our notable awards includes NATIONAL YOUTH AWARD from the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India in recognition of his steadfast commitment towards assisting beggars. Followed by, • CHIEF MINISTER’S STATE YOUTH AWARD from Gov. of Tamil Nadu, • BEST ACHIEVER AWARD by Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, • ANANDHA VIKATAN’S TOP 10 YOUTH AWARD, • MAHATMA GANDHI AWARD by Tamil Nadu Governor, • Best Social Service Awards by Erode District collector for 6 consecutive times and bags 80+ awards from governments, institutions, various organizations. As part of our advocacy efforts, founder Naveenkumar was invited twice as a Resource Person by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India to train nodal officers and NGOs under the National SMILE-Beggary scheme as a resource person in NISD, New Delhi. Erode district was recognized for its best practices in the field of beggary rehabilitation by them. Also trained newly inducted DCPOs under the Department of Children Welfare and Special Services for the Government of Tamil Nadu.
