About This Cause
Srujanavani Voluntary Association, based out of Vizag, India has been in the field of social development for the past 25years. Our journey started in the year 1996 by our Founder, Shri R. Ravi Kumar, with the aim "to bring about a positive social change" by providing it with responsible and responsive citizens--- taking little steps towards the collective goal of achieving a ‘Utopian India’. Numerous activities that were undertaken were never devoid of our mission to support the underprivileged and needy sections of society. Experiences from these activities have channelised our work under 3 major domains – Education, Empowerment and Sporadic Activities. Education: We at Srujanavani believe that ‘lack of education is the root cause of all the ills plaguing the society. Our work with youth and their self-reformatory processes rightly aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals 2030 (SDG-4). Driven by the vision of creating a knowledge society, numerous initiatives ranging from financial support to bridge gaps in the existing education systems were undertaken. 1. Financial support to the underprivileged students – Srujanavani Scholarship Initiative: Extending financial support to the academically bright & economically weak students, and creating a hope that financial limitations are not a hindrance to pursuing their dreams. The scholarship initiative is extended students pursuing +2 education to their bachelor’s education, Greater preference is extended towards girl child education. Besides the financial support program, these scholars also undergo skill & personality development training conducted by Srujanavani. These training are aimed to bring about a transformative outlook towards life. Since 2009, we are able to extend financial support and train 1050 students. 2. Free Coaching initiatives: Competitive exams have always been the confidence boosters for the students. Prepping the students to appear for competitive exams such as the National Means cum Merit Scholarship (NMMS) and PolyCET entrance exams has been a huge success. Because of our efforts, 130+ students have secured scholarships that support their education. Similarly, 250+ students have made it to the premier polytechnic institutes in the State of Andhra Pradesh. 3. Career Counselling initiative: Lack of proper career guidance, more particularly among the rural students results in students getting dropped out or choosing careers in which they might not be passionate. To address this problem, Srujanavani conducts career guidance sessions for students pursuing 10th education. To date, we have conducted 1000+ Career counselling sessions to guide 20000+ students. In addition to the above core activities, subsidiary activities such as School infrastructure development, construction of toilets, the establishment of water vending machines are undertaken. While these activities do not directly contribute to the learning outcome of the children, they improve the child’s experience of the school environment. More particularly, for the girl students, the presence of toilets has led to greater continuity of education and lesser dropouts from the schooling system. In conclusion, any activity aimed at improving the child’s experience in the school has been taken up by Srujanavani. Empowerment: Rural development has always been at the core of Srujanavani endeavours. While it includes a wide array of activities, most of our activities are focused on capacity building. Empowering women through skill development training, capacitating the unemployed rural youth on digital literacy, are some of the many activities being undertaken. 4. Women empowerment through skill training: Women from the surrounding villages of our rural centre are trained on tailoring kill, as a means to diversify their livelihood. Around 500 women have undertaken this training, and 1/5th of the women have started a business of their own. Besides some of the women secured employment in the nearest Special Economic Zone as skilled tailoring professionals. This initiative had a cascading impact on the children’s education and marginal increases in the standard of life. 5. Skill development training to the rural unemployed youth: Every year digital literacy sessions to encourage the unemployed youth to grab the growing digital marketing opportunities are undertaken. Similarly, a section of the youth is trained on basic and advanced painting skills with M/s. Asian paints collaboration. These programs are aimed to impart basic skills to illiterate youth to attain self-employment. 6. Agriculture Extension Service Centre (AESC): This initiative is developed to supply farmers with subsidized farm machinery, thereby reducing the overall cultivation costs and making farming remunerative. Besides the farmers are also trained on natural farming practices, which help improve soil health and reduce the use of pesticides and fertilizers. Through this initiative, yearly, 250+ farmers are benefitted utilising the resources, and ~30% save on their cultivation costs. Relief Activities: While the organisation has core interests in the domains of education and empowerment, we were never devoid of the response to natural calamities and man-made disasters. Relief activities. blood donations, winter cloth distribution, coastal cleaning drives, medical camps in tribal areas, etc. are some of the activities we have undertaken over the years. Indeed, we were instrumental in reaching out to the tribal's hamlets during the CoVID times. Tribal and semi-tribal habitations which were cut off from the mainstream support were attended. Similarly, great support to the migrant labourer was extended. However, the fundamental factors influencing our success was and will be our scientific approach in planning, and the need-based approach. In conclusion, we believe our activities have created a significant change in the lives of a few. However, this would not have been a possibility without the support of patrons and well-wishers. Our CSR partners have been of immense support to the interventions we undertook. Lastly, these 25 years on the less travelled path was an outcome of the selfless journey of our members and their families.
