About This Cause
The CSR vision of Tech Mahindra Limited is “Empowerment through Education.” Tech Mahindra Foundation is the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) arm of Tech Mahindra. It was set up in 2007 as a Section 25 Company (referred to as Section 8 Company in the Companies Act, 2013), with a vision of Empowering through Education, and a mission encapsulated in the words below: The key focus areas for Corporate Social Responsibility at Tech Mahindra Foundation are: 1) Empowerment of girls/women 2) Empowerment of people with disabilities 3) Corporate volunteering These three areas are cross-cutting themes for all our projects and programs at Tech Mahindra Foundation. The Foundation works with the mandate that 50% of its beneficiaries are women and 10% are Persons with disabilities. Enhancing Employability: The Foundation has been running SMART Academies (since May 2016) with the intent of offering more advanced and longer-term courses in some specialized vocations. At present, the Foundation runs 12 Tech Mahindra SMART Academies including five SMART Academies for Healthcare, three SMART Academies for Digital Technologies, and four SMART Academy for Logistics. SMART Centres train youth from economically weaker sections of urban communities with the requisite employability skills through a structured training program, ensuring that they are placed in suitable dignified jobs. The program places great emphasis on Foundations’ job skills such as Spoken English, Basic IT, and Workplace Readiness. In SMART, there are a total of 15 domains and 63 courses that the students can opt from SMART, SMART+ (for persons with disabilities), and SMART-T (Technical) Centres. Empowering Through Education: Education is the tool for creating an empowered and enlightened society capable of rising to its full potential. We are committed to teacher empowerment, enriching learning opportunities for children, effective school governance, and enhancing parental involvement in primary school education. ARISE or All Round Improvement in School Education focuses on enabling children from underprivileged and marginalized socio-economic strata to receive quality primary education and optimize their full potential. The program works in collaboration with Municipal Corporations and State government bodies to develop primary Schools into model schools of excellence. ‘Shikshaantar’ means creating a difference in education and the Foundation believes that any true transformation can be brought only through learning. In the domain of education, Shikshaantar is the Foundation’s training program for teachers that focuses on creating happier classrooms by empowering teachers and by helping them unleash their potential to the fullest. Promoting the inclusion of Persons with Disabilities: Disability is the third major area of intervention for Tech Mahindra Foundation. The Foundation works towards ensuring that Persons with Disabilities have the opportunity for a better future and dignified life. This is done through two programs: ARISE+ (All Round Improvement in School Education for Children with Disabilities) and SMART+ (Skills-for-Market Training for Persons with Disabilities). The Foundation mandates that 10% of all its beneficiaries are Persons with Disabilities. After the overwhelming success of the SMART program, the SMART+ program was launched in 2013 to include Persons with Disabilities. A specially designed curriculum plus well-equipped classrooms enable effective communication in classrooms so as to enable Persons with Disabilities to learn. It is a cross-cutting theme for the SMART program with vocational and skill development training centres. ARISE+ or All Round Improvement in School Education, is a special program that encompasses the Foundation’s work in the area of school education for Children with Disabilities. The Foundation works with disabled children studying in government schools to help them realize their potential and prepare them for mainstream schools.
