About This Cause
Balajee Sewa Sansthan is a non-profit organization committed to working for the overall development of marginal people like economic self-sufficiency, through various initiatives. The primary focus areas of our work are Health and Hygiene and livelihood measures as well as disaster/ epidemics relief services. As our name suggests, we consider it a privilege to be able to do “Sewa”, to serve our fellow human –beings with the utmost dedication and compassion. We believe that every life has equal value and an equal right to live with dignity. Our team continues supporting to most needy affected people from April 2020. We are providing Dry Ration Kit (Including hygiene kit for women and essentials kits), helping the poor with free vaccination, Free RT-PCR test, Cash support for the transportation to go back his/her home, hospitalization, distributing free mask, sanitizers, Soap for handwashing and connecting people with doctors through Tele-medicine. We have been spreading awareness among illiterate and slum populations about vaccination & safety measures and supporting them to restart their livelihood or micro-enterprises. Till 30th September, 2021, the BSS team has distributed more than 9500 Dry Ration kits with the support of GIVEINDIA and other well-wishers while more than 4500 migrant and TB patients facilitated for free vaccination against COVID-19. Composition of the kit- The name of Kit would be “No one sleep hungry-The Family Emergency Kit”. The intervention is proposed to: 1. Immediate Relief- It is proposed to provide immediate relief by providing Dry Ration Kit (food items and Hygiene kit) to unemployed daily wagers, marginal farmers, daily laborers, migrants, elderly in Ashrams, orphanages, people suffering from chronic illnesses like TB, HIV-AIDS, etc. 2. Recovery and Rehabilitation- For recovery and rehabilitation support by providing capacity building training support through micro-level low-cost training center as per their needs like Tailoring, beautician course, mushroom cultivation, animal husbandry, homemade pickle, papad, Dhupbatti, candle making, integrated farming system to become self-sustainable and supporting for micro-enterprise development. Heavy rainfall in Uttarakhand for the three consecutive days (starting from 17.10.2021) has led to chaos and disaster across the hilly state, with flooded roads and buildings, destroyed bridges, and overflowing water bodies leaving locals and tourists stranded - some in remote and dangerous locations. Our intervention Balajee Sewa Sansthan has started relief work in the affected areas and has been providing dry ration and hygiene kit support with the help of partner NGOs and volunteers. We have also provided cooked meals for 3 days in the affected areas. Although, at present, it is not possible to reach the affected areas and roads, overbridges got destroyed in the disaster. This is from our meager resources. Proposed plan on our intervention The damages caused by the rain are severe and it would take time to return to normalcy. It has affected the lives of people in the long term. It is proposed to intervene by following ways to provide the relief to affected people- 1. Dry Ration and Hygiene kit 2. Kitchen Utensils 3. Warm clothes including sweaters/shawls/socks and Blankets 4. House/Sanitation-Toilet Repair and Construction It is proposed to serve 1000 affected families and more than 5000 people. Balajee Sewa Sansthan has a very good track record and experience of 19 years with a dedicated team of social activists and currently working in 3 States (Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh & Bihar) in India. We have been, and are currently working on many different causes, viz..- SHG Formation and bank linkage program, FPO(Farmers producers organization) promotional program, farmers club development program, HIV-AIDS (TI); Financial Literacy and dFLAP; Skill Development; Child Education , TB & Tobacco Control Program, Water & Sanitation (Providing low-cost Toilets); Livelihood through Eco-Educational-Environmental-Rural Tourism (Himalayan Gram), Micro-Credit Program for livelihood, Farmers club, E-shakti (Digitalization of SHGs), solar energy, etc. Besides these major projects, we promote - consumer awareness, environmental awareness, empowerment of women, through training minority women in leadership and related skills, multi-skills development centers for Rural & Urban underprivileged women, Maternal health, health check-up camps. We are also in the process of planning many more initiatives for our beneficiaries.
