About This Cause

Bihar Voluntary Health Association (BVHA) is a non-profit organization established in 1969. It was formed by visionary leader Fr James Stuart Tong SJ, Medical Mission Sisters, and like-minded social reformists with the noble vision of making community health a reality for the less privileged millions. It was registered in February 1970 under the Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860 at Patna, Bihar. Since its inception, BVHA has been working to improve the health and well-being of people through the promotion of community health. The organization is dedicated to increasing the organizational capacities of member and network partner organizations, addressing the health and social needs of communities. BVHA is a pioneer member of the Voluntary Health Association of India, contributing significantly to community health promotion in Bihar and Jharkhand. In its early years, BVHA focused on fortifying the expertise of charitable hospitals and health centers in remote areas and played a crucial role in providing support during natural calamities. Over time, BVHA expanded its scope by initiating various interventions to address the unique healthcare needs of marginalized individuals. Beyond disaster response, BVHA empowers and enhances the capacity of Civil Society Organizations to meet the health and societal requirements of their communities. The organization is also duly registered under FCRA, 12A, 80G, and other relevant statutes in India. BVHA takes pride in its enduring commitment to transparency, accountability, and compliance. BVHA has a rich history of successfully implementing projects and programs addressing critical issues such as mother and child health, anemia prevention, child malnutrition, child marriage, mobile healthcare services, arsenic-free safe drinking water, HIV/AIDS, family planning, sustainable livelihood, disaster relief efforts, and capacity building of Civil Society Organizations in health promotion and institution building. The organization's expertise lies in understanding and addressing the unique challenges faced by marginalized communities in Bihar.
