About This Cause

"SEEDS (Sustainable Environment and Ecological Development Society) is a not-for-profit organization that enables every individual with practical solutions towards disaster lifecycle management and sustainable environment. It builds self-reliant, resilient, and sustainable communities across boundaries using innovation and engaging at grassroots. Since 1994, the organization has worked extensively on every major disaster in the Indian subcontinent assisting affected families; strengthening and rebuilding schools and homes; putting its faith in skill-building, planning and communications to foster long-term resilience. SEEDS empower the poorest and the most vulnerable to build a better future and works with both disaster-affected and at-risk communities. We do this in a long-term and interconnected manner – in peacetime, before, during and after a disaster. Our attention is on the most vulnerable and marginalized families. Disaster survivors have had schools, homes and community infrastructure restored and upgraded. Vulnerable communities have gained access to clean water, sanitation and health facilities. We have also invested in skill building, partnerships and advocacy to build the long-term resilience of at-risk communities. SEEDS started off as a disaster relief organization but it expanded its ambit of operation in Climate change, Environment, Livelihood, Education and Health with many ongoing projects all with an ecosystem approach. Environment sustainability SEEDS help communities find ways to solve or better withstand their daily risks with climate emergencies that requires changes in how we interact with nature. In addition to schools, SEEDS work on practical environmental and adaptation initiatives. Nature-based solutions have been designed to help adapt to climate change in ecologically-sensitive areas. In order to conserve wetlands of India, we have been collaborating with coastal communities to restore the natural ecosystem and promote sustainable livelihoods. From nature-based solutions to managing financial risk; from mitigation strategies to adapting livelihoods. Each of these is tailored to the area’s ecology, needs and strengths. SEEDS is committed to Enabling the bottom 1% of vulnerable to climate emergency, to withstand it and secure their future potential and thereby that of the larger community. Volunteering Campaigns To give every individual the opportunity to be a part of change with social impact and amplify giving, SEEDS has been anchoring monthly volunteering programs where people around the globe can join the cause and make a difference. With the believe that every one of us have the ability to make a meaningful contribution, SEEDS has been running volunteering programs under various themes to empower women with a sustainable livelihood, Wetlands Conservation, protect the vulnerable communities affected by Heatwaves and various other campaigns for climate change and disaster reduction.
