Mission Statement: “Giving children a childhood”
About This Cause
Delhi Council for Child Welfare (DCCW) is a non-profit Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) set up in 1952 to provide care for children who had been displaced, lost or abandoned in the riots surrounding the Partition of India. Over the years, DCCW’s programmes have expanded to cover medical services, nutrition, vocational training, adoption, pre-school non formal education to the underprivileged children of in and around Delhi. These services reach over 3000 children daily and are provided virtually free of cost to them. Its programs have been certified by Credibility Alliance, GiveIndia and by CAF America. Mission Statement: “Giving children a childhood” Vision : A society where all children have all that is rightfully theirs, and every opportunity to realise their potential. Management: It is run by a professional team of dedicated staff and an active Executive Committee comprising volunteer professional members. Programmes & Activities in brief Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, all programs except PALNA have been suspended in accordance with the Govt of India guidelines. PALNA™, set up in 1978, is DCCW’s home to provide care and shelter for lost, homeless, relinquished or abandoned children, and is licensed for adoptions. There are typically about 80-100 children at any given point of time. To date, about 2800+ children have been placed with loving families. PALNA’s multi-specialty medical programme, non-formal educational sessions and recreational facilities, address all aspects of children’s development, health and overall well-being. Infants very often arrive in a precarious state of health. PALNATM has its own well equipped Medical Crisis Unit. Local hospitals offer services in case of extreme critical cases. Mortality in PALNATM today is negligible. Palna WeeKids This program prepares underprivileged children in the age group 2½ to 6 years to attend mainstream schools. The program is oriented to play an important role for children whose parents are unable to offer either time or resources for the development, (physical, mental, emotional or social) of their children. Over 750 kids benefitted from this program annually. The Educational Sponsorship Programme provides financial support, guidance, counseling and health check-ups to academically bright children from low-income families. At present about 950 children receive sponsorship for their primary education. Vocational Training Programme: Started in 1976, today DCCW Vocational Training Programme runs in centres across Delhi, and annually trained over 700 girls in income generating skills such as computer training, beauty culture, stitching and tailoring, candle and soap making. Supervised Homework Scheme: Initiated in 1980, the Supervised Homework Scheme reaches out to around 350 underprivileged children in grades 1-4, who need academic assistance with school work. The activities of DCCW are undertaken at the following outreach Centres: Bawana, Begumpur, Dakshinpuri, Gadaipur, Janakpuri, Madipur, New Seemapuri, Shahbad Dairy, Poothkalan, Pandav Nagar, Qudsia Bagh, Sultanpuri, Trilokpuri- 1, Trilokpuri - 2, Trilokpuri - 3.
