About This Cause
SOFOSH, The Society of Friends of the Sassoon Hospitals, is registered under the Bombay Public Trust act 1950 on 31st August 1964 and under the Societies Registration Act 1860 on 18th September 1964. SOFOSH is a charitable trust that aims to shelter, nurture educate and rehabilitate orphan, family-deprived and destitute specially abled children from new born to 25 years old children. SOFOSH also support medical, emotional and economic crisis. SOFOSH supplement the medical services provided by the Sassoon General Hospitals, (a government hospital in Pune) through a range of humanitarian services for crisis affected patients and their families, and support the hospital itself by providing much needed equipment material. The objective of the trust is to bring compassionate care to vulnerable children and people in times of crisis, with a view to making our society a better place to live. In 1973, SOFOSH established Shreevatsa, a child care that provides shelter, care, educational and medical aid to family-deprived and destitute children including specially baled children between the age new born to 6 years. All efforts are made to take good of them, for their overall growth and development. The children at Shreevatsa are looked after with love and care. The institute also take efforts to permanently rehabilitate these children through our well established Government recognised adoption program. SOFOSH established “Tara” a home for family deprived and destitute specially abled children of ages ranging from 6 years to 25 years in 2008 at SOFOSH Dhadphale Centre, Pimple Gurav Pune. All efforts are made to provide shelter, best care, medical care, education and overall growth and development of children. We have employed trained care givers, and nursing staff to look after the health and growth of these children. Visiting doctors and other professionals are engaged for the wellbeing of the inmates. All children at our child care institute are taken care of with a lot of love and affection. They are provided with all required facilities at the child care institute. The facilities like Physio Therapy, Speech Therapy, Dance Therapy, Occupational therapy are provided for the overall growth and development of the children at Tara SOFOSH Dhadphale Centre. Mandakini Dravid Development Centre is in house centre focuses on the overall growth and development of specially abled orphan family deprived and destitute children. MDDC also caters to the needs of the specially abled children from the society. Activities conducted in the centre includes Occupational therapy, Music therapy, activities for social and emotional development, fine and gross motor skills and pre-vocational activities. Patient Welfare services for crisis affected patients and their families while medical facilities are provided to the patients that are economically underprivileged need and assistant. Services under patient welfare: Financial assistance in medication, Pre and post – surgery, Counselling and rehabilitation for single, deserted mothers and women in crisis, Family preservation program to keep children within the fold of their family by birth.
