Mission Statement
The Mission of SIVA Trust is to make women of rural society progressive and self-reliant through self-help groups, financial empowerment, health education, to organize programs for protection of children from all types of abuses and exploitation, to take measures for enabling a society with equal opportunities for persons with disabilities and to work for the land rights and economic sustenance of hill tribes in Tamil Nadu
About This Cause
SIVA Trust is a registered Public Charitable Trust working since 1994 with the ultimate mission of poverty reduction among poor and the downtrodden with exclusive focus on economic empowerment of women, prevention and eradication of child labor and facilitation to persons with disabilities in Tirunelveli, Tenkasi and Coimbatore Districts of Tamil Nadu. It also works for the forest land rights, improved agricultural production and improved economic condition of hill/forest tribal communities in Tamil Nadu State of India. Besides, it is also working for a safe and secure work place for women employees and equality for them with male employees in wages and other benefits and carries out advocacy with the Government agencies for implementing the laws ensuring these rights to women employees. It has two offices, one at Vanniconendal in Tirunelveli district managing the Trust works in Tirunelveli and Tenkasi districts and the other one at Coimbatore, which office takes care of the over all organizational management, legal compliance, fundraising and the works in Coimbatore district as well as the tribal-related activities throughout the State. The Vanniconendal office has 6 staff taking care of the revolving fund operation to assist women economically through more than 100 women self help groups with a membership of around 1500 and also the related work for protection of child rights, prevention of child abuse, child marriage, child labor, health and educational care of children and also assisting persons with disabilities. The staff team also has been conducting intensive awareness on preventive measures and also vaccination drive in the wake of Covid-19 pandemic threat. To improve the educational standard of students in this backward area, 7 supplementary tuition centers are conducted helping more than 350 students. Vocational skill training centers also function at two places, in which 30 women/girls are being trained in tailoring and garment making. On the health front, the ante-natal and post-natal mothers are given regular guidance and counselling on safe delivery, caring of new born and self-hygiene. Adolescent girls are trained on menstrual hygiene, ill effects of early marriage and early pregnancy. The persons with disabilities are helped in getting their Unique Disability ID cards, pension, rail/bus pass and assistive devices. The Director, Fundraising Manager and the Compliance & Finance Manager function from the Coimbatore office, with two volunteers in Coimbatore district to work for the persons with disabilities and also for the safety of women employees in textile sector. The 15 volunteers in the hills/forests of Tamil Nadu are also governed from this office. They work in assisting the hill tribes in getting individual and collective land rights under the Forest Rights Act, 2006, for the forest areas they live and cultivate, training them in improved agro-ecological techniques for improved production, orienting them on disaster risk reduction, linking their production with national and international markets and developing a State level organization for their overall growth. Regular lobbying and advocacy is being carried out for the over all development of the hill areas and also a systematic documentation is maintained for the land rights got by them.
