Mission Statement
Yugantar is a 42 year old not-for profit organisation working on issues of equity, development and democracy. Since its inception it has been involved in pioneering work in the development sector through research, communication, advocacy and outreach activities.
About This Cause
Yugantar is a 42 year-old-old NGO that began as India’s first feminist film collective. Yugantar created pioneering films with women’s groups across the country. The work of Yugantar evolved and moved into the implementation of development projects in both rural and urban settings, working with marginalized groups to realize their rights. Today, Yugantar is an old NGO that is led by a team of young women, queer people, and local activists eager to expand its reach and impact. We at Yugantar work with women, the urban poor, youth at risk, queer-trans communities, and governance-related issues. Our current projects include 'Budget Rani - A Women's Financial Inclusion Program' which is focused on addressing gender inequality through finanical inclusion/independence and YouRTI- A web portal that makes Right To Information accessible to everyone. Currently we are also working towards setting up 'Queer-Trans Wellness and Support Center' as a comprehensive eco-system for Queer-trans people. The center will support LGBTQIA+ identifying adults by offering services like temporary shelter, a drop-in space, free mental health services, access to legal aid and other resources via a helpline and partner organisations. Our past projects like Tech M Smart Center and a project with Mahila Sanatkar focused on young adults emploability and skill development of women. Projects like Small Voices, Small Victories and Tight-ropes and Bootstraps worked with youth at risk. In COVID- 19 crisis, Yugantar worked with various communities who are facing loss of livelohood. As a part of this effort, Yugantar has worked in Old city Hyderabad and with Transgender community in Hyderabad to support the members of these communities. We also worked with Public Health Centres to help them manage the increased demand during the pandemic in testing and vaccination efforts.
