Mission Statement
Founded in 1944, Jai Vakeel Foundation is one of the oldest & largest not for profit institutes in India serving individuals with Intellectual Disability. Our approach is holistic; we aim to integrate our students into mainstream society by providing them with healthcare, education & skill development. To provide holistic services delivered by well-trained staff through a recognised curriculum and an engaged parent body. The foundation aims to deliver a physical, social and cultural environment compatible with greater learning and growth for individuals with intellectual disability.
About This Cause
Jai Vakeel was born in 1944 of one couple's desire to provide their child a place to thrive and be happy. Inspired by their daughter Dina, who was born with Down's Syndrome, and in the absence of any establishment that catered to individuals with intellectual disability, Mr. & Mrs. Hormusjee Vakeel started Jai Vakeel from their home. With Mrs. Vakeel at the helm, Jai Vakeel began its journey by educating and providing therapy to a few children. Having spent 79 years widening and deepening its impact across the segment, Jai Vakeel has come to be one of the oldest and largest nonprofit institutes in India dedicated to serving individuals with intellectual disability. Jai Vakeel provides holistic services to individuals with intellectual disability; under the following categories: HEALTHCARE - Diagnosis and Therapy; Student Career Counseling; Parent Engagement; Rural Medical Camp. EDUCATION (Ages 6 to 18) - Schools for children with Intellectual Disability (Mumbai, Talegaon and Deolali) and Autism Centre. SKILLS DEVELOPMENT CENTRE(Ages 18 to 50) - Has Vocational Training Centre, Sheltered Workshop, and Respite Care for individuals in the age range of 18 to 25 under this program.
