Mission Statement

To provide appropriate education, intervention, training and advocacy which will lead to awareness, empowerment and employment of people with disabilities with the help and support of trained staff and care givers and to take measures for prevention, cure and mitigation of disabling conditions. All these measures will be undertaken with the cooperation of families, communities and other stakeholders.

About This Cause

The organisation was founded by a blind activist, Late Jagdishbhai Patel. It transformed from working for and with persons who have a visual impairment to all categories of disabilities, visual impairment, deaf-blind, hearing impairment, orthopaedic impairment as well as mental retardation, schizophrenia, Autism etc. The BPA is well known for developing innovative and need-based all age groups of persons with disabilities, their parents and other stakeholders. BPA activities range from prevention of blindness, education, professional and vocational training, production and distribution of mobility, educational and rehabilitation and assistive devices, community-based rehabilitation and other developmental processes. It also mobilises resources, develops appropriate manpower, provides advisory services and indulges in advocacy. The six-decade-old Blind People’s Association is a highly active, multi-campus, functional and progressive organisation. It has initiated and developed a variety of services on the promotion of education, community-based rehabilitation and provision of support services to persons with disabilities. Now, The Blind People’s Association is one of the largest organization in the country working for comprehensive development of people with disabilities, located in Ahmedabad Gujarat with 15 centres spread out in the state. BPA provides the following services to children with disabilities, people with disabilities. 1. Education 2. Rehabilitation Therapies 3. Assistive Devices 4. Skill Development/Vocational Trainings 5. Livelihood Supports. 6. Eye Care Services 7. Rural Projects for people with disabilities living in rural areas. 8. Capacity Development Programs for Parents, Siblings, Government Officials, and for community members. 9. BPA also promotes technology for persons with visual impairment and low vision. 10. BPA provides technical support to the small organization for resource mobilization, management, leadership.
