Mission Statement
Gram Vikas’ Mission is ‘to promote processes which are sustainable, socially inclusive and gender equitable, to enable critical masses of poor and marginalized rural people or communities to achieve a dignified quality of life’. Gram Vikas leverages the inherent strength of communities to initiate, manage and sustain context-specific development processes. The process is backed up by organising, technical and managerial support by Gram Vikas.
About This Cause
Gram Vikas is a community development organization working with rural communities in Odisha and Jharkhand since 1979, to help them build a dignified life. We do this through building capacities, strengthening community institutions, and mobilising resources. We work on issues related to water, livelihoods and sanitation and hygiene, with use of appropriate technology being a key element. Building village institutions to manage village development and participate effectively in the local governance processes is the cornerstone of the approach. Our work in 45 years has benefitted more than 1.2 million households in about 8,195 habitations across 983 Gram Panchayats in 27 districts of the two States.
