Mission Statement
Anandam is a registered charitable trust, started with a view to provide free shelters, food, medical needs etc. to the elderly, who do not having living children and no source of income. At present we accommodate 105 elders. The expenses are met through donations from individuals and Corporate celebrating birthdays, wedding days and the likes.
About This Cause
The elders are accommodated in a 2400 sqm complex, comprising 12 dormitory type rooms with twin attached bath rooms, prayer hall, kitchen & Dining room, Medical wards for the sick and an administrative block. We provide good vegetarian food to the residents, 5 sets of new dresses per year, comfortable cot/ mattresses etc. The residents are medically checked up as and when required by visiting doctors, and the required medicines/ injections/ lab tests et6c are provided as needed. A fully equipped phisiotherapy centre help the residents to keep fit through qulified physiotherapists. To keep the residents engaged usefully, we encourage them to take free tuition to the local poor children. It started with 7 students some 11 years ago, and swelled to 270 at present, necessiating appointing additional teachers from outside. Special computer training is also providede to a selected batch of students. A separate and spacious class room within the complex is created for this purpose. The standard of education among this children vastly improved. As an added activity, we have recently started a Anandam Medical Care Centre to take care of the local poor people numbering about 1,50,000. We provide doctor consultation by general physians (one in the morning hours and one in the evening), Eye testing for 2 days in a week, Dental care for 2 days in a week apart from providing Ayurveda and Acupuncture treatments. Medicines and injections prescribed by the doctors are supplied free. Advance care in eye and dental are also providede free at reputed hospitals outside. Free lab testing facilities are extended to the poor patients. To empower poor womenfolk, we assist them through qualified doctors skill in providing geriatric nursing care and these women are gainfully employed. Free tailoring course is also provided and at the end of the training, we supply them with a new tailoring machine. During the recent heavy rains at Chennai, we contributed a little help to them by providing food packets, blankets, medicines, milk, dress materials etc. etc. for about 12 days. Periodic Medical Camps are regularly conducted in far away villages through qualified doctors. We are planning the following future projects: a) Constructing a free Palliative Care Centre. b) Start a special and free to the Autism children. c) Start a free Primary Education School to the poor children.
