Mission Statement

Sri Sathya Sai Central Trust is a registered public charitable Trust in Puttaparthi, India founded by Sri Sathya Sai Baba in 1972. We focus on the fulfillment of basic needs of society through direct social work in areas like healthcare,education, drinking water supply projects and disaster relief works. Highlights of the work done by the Trust: Two super-speciality hospitals - more than 310,000 surgeries/procedures over the last 25 years with all medical services provided completely free of charge. A Deemed University with four campuses, two schools where for the last two decades students have been provided Values-based Integral Education with no tuition fee charged. Drinking Water Supply Projects to Chennai city and in 5 districts of Andhra Pradesh covering a population of about 4 million. Our works are greatly supported by volunteers who come to Puttaparthi all through the year, to participate in these projects. Donors from over 100 countries donate voluntarily towards the welfare projects.

About This Cause

The main areas of welfare work of the Trust lie in education, healthcare, aid to poor and disaster relief. The Trust is guided by the philosophy that education, drinking water and medical treatment are basic needs of an individual and they should be available to one and all free of cost. Education: The Trust runs 2 schools (at Puttaparthi & Rajahmundry) and a university at Prasanthi Nilayam. Education is provided absolutely free of cost from primary school to doctoral level. The Sri Sathya Sai Higher Secondary School in Puttaparthi was declared as one among the Top 10 schools in India, by the Central Board of Secondary Education of India, in terms of academic performance in June 2014. The Trust had established a Trust for running the Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning, a Deemed University under the Government of India. It has 4 campuses in : Puttaparthi, Bangalore, Anantapur and Muddenahalli. The Institute has a Music College in Puttaparthi that provides instruction in vocal and instrumental Indian classical music. More than 60% of the expenditure of Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning is funded by Sri Sathya Sai Central Trust. Focus on values-based Integral Education : The schools and the university aim at imparting integral education in its programmes. Some unique aspects are : Pursuit of academic excellence, combined with duty and discipline; Illumination through yoga, games and social work; Opportunities for expression in music and other arts.; Understanding of the values : Truth, Righteousness, Peace, Love and Non-violence in the contemporary milieu; Sri Sathya Sai Vidya Vahini Project : On 23rd November 2010, the Trust announced a very unique project in the field of education, the Sri Sathya Sai Vidya Vahini project. The programme seeks to enhance the training level of teachers in the rural and semi-urban areas, through technology enablement and community participation. The digital teaching aids for the syllabi of various boards are developed by a volunteer-teacher community from Sai schools and shared over an education portal. Delivery of these content and training is accomplished by a team of youth volunteers, who work closely with the recipient schools and enable handholding of the project execution. Tata Consultancy Services, a leading technology company, has offered to support in the development of the education portal. Healthcare: The Trust runs 2 super-specialty hospitals, 2 general hospitals and a Mobile Hospital. The Super-specialty Hospital (Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Medical Sciences) was set up, in 1991, at Prasanthi Gram village, Anantapur District, A.P. to provide medical care of the highest quality,totally free, in the highly specialized fields like cardiology, urology, nephrology, ophthalmology, etc. It has 230 beds and 8 operation theatres. Another super-specialty hospital, Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Medical Sciences, at Whitefield, Bangalore, was started in the year 2000 to cater to the medical needs of the general public. The Hospital has 330 beds and 12 operation theatres, serving the Cardiology, Cardiac surgery, Neurology and Neurosurgery departments. The Institute provides state-of-the-art totally free of cost, to all without discrimination of any kind. Both the hospitals have the latest world-class equipment in diagnostics & healthcare delivery. In all, since their inception, the hospitals have performed 3,10,000 surgeries/proecedures to date. Majority of the patients, who come for treatment to the Hospitals are from the economically weaker sections of society, often breadwinners and children. Leading doctors specializing in the fields of Cardiology, Urology, Nephrology, Ophthalmology, Neurology etc. come from different parts of the world on their own and render their services free of cost. Sri Sathya Sai Mobile Hospital As a medical outreach programme for the rural poor, the Trust acquired a mobile hospital which is equipped to provide diagnostic services such as X-ray, ECG, Ultrasound and Pathology. The mobile hospital, which began operating in April 2006, regularly visits villages around Puttaparthi. This hospital works for 12 days in a month. A team of around 10-12 doctors along with technicians and paramedical staff accompany the mobile hospital. In addition to conducting a general medical camp, a complete medical examination of students at the local village school is also conducted. The General Hospitals run by the Trust act as the arm for secondary healthcare. Sri Sathya Sai General Hospital, Prasanthi Nilayam Departments : General medicine, general surgery, Paediatrics, ENT, Ophthalmology, Dentistry, Obstetrics and Gynaecology : No. of beds : 80 No. of patient visits : Average 1100 daily. No. of surgeries : About 20 per month No. of deliveries (maternity section) : About 200 per month. Sri Sathya Sai General Hospital, Whitefield Departments – General Medicine, General Surgery, Paediatrics, ENT, Ophthalmology, Dentistry, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Orthopaedics, Plastic Surgery and Psychiatry. No. of beds : 80 No. of surgeries : About 15 per day. No. of patient visits : About 500 day The holistic approach of the Trust to healthcare has three facets : (a) Creating basic awareness on Preventive medicine, health and hygiene (b) Providing curative healthcare & (c) Emphasizing the importance of spirituality in holistic health Relief to poor: Grama Seva is one of the important activities conducted by the Trust. Every year, during the period of the Dasara Festival, students and staff of the educational institutions sponsored by the Trust take food and clothing by trucks to remote villages near Prasanthi Nilayam and deliver them at the doorsteps of the poor. Sri Sathya Sai Nitya Annadana Pathakam, was started in November 2010 for food distribution in the villages. This project is aligned with the Sri Sathya Sai Mobile Clinic project. For the villages visited by the Sri Sathya Sai Mobile Clinic on a given day, food distribution vans are sent the next day. Food is being distributed to the villagers, free of cost. The project serves an average of 1100 persons per day. The Trust also runs Sri Sathya Sai Vriddhashrama – a home for the aged – at Kadugodi, Bangalore, free of cost. Rehabilitation of flood affected families in Orissa State: After the Orissa Floods in September 2008, the Trust took up housing work for the victims in 4 districts. : Kendarapara, Cuttack, Puri and Jagatsinghpur. In the first phase, about 700 houses were taken up for construction in 16 villages In September 2011, the Trust initiated the second phase of building 300 houses. Drinking Water Supply Projects: Out of all the charitable activities undertaken by the Trust, one activity that stands out prominently is the provision of drinking water to the water-scarcity affected districts of Anantapur, Medak and Mahabubnagar, East & West Godavari in Andhra Pradesh. The Drinking Water Supply Project for Anantapur District was taken up during the year 1995 in one of the most arid districts in the country, where the ground water has high fluoride content. The project was mentioned with praise, in the Ninth Five Year plan of the Government of India, as worthy of emulation. Population covered : 12.5 lakhs Villages covered : 770 Total length of pipeline laid : 2500 km During the year 2013, the Trust took up the second phase of this project for Anantapur District. No. of habitations benefited : 118 Mandals : Puttaparthi, Kothacheruvu and Bukkapatnam . Total length of pipeline laid : 335 km Population covered : 2.5 lakhs Medak & Mahabubnagar Districts : Initiated in 1999, this project covers two of the most water-scarce districts in the Telangana region of Andhra Pradesh. Villages covered : 320 Total length of pipeline laid : 750 km Population covered : 7 lakhs Augmentation of water supply to Chennai City : The Trust took up a project of augmenting the supply of drinking water to Chennai City in the year 2002. This scheme was taken up for improvement to the infrastructure of the Sathya Sai Ganga Canal system from Kandaleru to Poondi to enable water supply to Chennai City. A second phase of this project was taken up in 2006 on the Tamil Nadu state side. The main works under this project included, Improvements to Reservoirs, Improvements to Approach Channel, Lining of the Canal, Improvements to Flood Flow (SKFF) canal, Construction of escape structures and regulators etc. Drinking Water Supply Project in East Godavari & West Godavari Districts of Andhra Pradesh Sri Sathya Sai Central Trust had taken up a massive project for supply of safe drinking water to about 450 upland and tribal habitations in East Godavari and West Godavari districts. For both the districts : Population covered : 7.8 lakhs Habitations covered : 452 Mandals covered : 23 Total length of pipeline laid : 1089 km All the drinking water supply projects of the Trust have been transferred to the Government for operation and maintenance. Spirit of Voluntarism : A special mention needs to be made about the dedicated team of volunteers belonging to various Sathya Sai centers all over India, who lend their silent and wonderful support in the running and upkeep of the Trust properties, hospitals, educational institutions, etc. These volunteers, who come from varied walks of life and hold esteemed positions in society, serve tirelessly in a spirit of love and devotion as an offering to God. Indeed, the biggest motivating factor for everyone associated with the various Sathya Sai Organisations is the teachings of Sri Sathya Sai Baba, and the immense satisfaction of contributing their might for a noble cause. The Trust accepts donations, from donors all over the world, earmarked for each of the four purposes, Education, Healthcare, Aid to Poor and General Public Utility.
