Mission Statement

Create a movement of lifelong leaders working from within various sectors to eliminate educational inequity in the country. Vision: One day all children will attain an excellent education.

About This Cause

India's systemic education crisis affects 30% of the world's poorest children. 76% of Indian students fail to enter Grade 10; less than 5% of our low-income youth are enrolled in college. These children fight cyclic challenges - from debilitating poverty and discrimination to a lack of skilled, empathic educators. To add to this, the extended and varied effects of the COVID-19 pandemic have intensified educational inequity and halted progress, leading to learning losses for nearly all students and, more gravely, impacting the lives of children from underserved and volatile communities. Spanning eight cities, Teach For India holds a critical role in the country's educational reform efforts. In these thirteen years, Teach For India has fuelled the education landscape with the talent needed to drive change and is building on proven Student impact across India: graduation rates, reading levels, child safety, and more. The Teach For India Fellowship Program recruits India's brightest and most promising individuals from the nation's best universities and workplaces to serve as full-time teachers to children from low-income communities in some of the nation's most under-resourced schools. Through this experience of teaching in classrooms and working with key education stakeholders like Students, school principals, and parents, our Fellows get exposed to the grassroots realities of India's education system. This marks the beginning of their journey of playing their part in building a larger movement of leaders for educational equity. The Fellowship has responded to the evolving learning landscape post the pandemic. We have been agile, planning for multiple scenarios, ranging from a lockdown to extensions, virtual modes of teaching, in-person/blended learning, etc. Our goal for our Students is to put every child we work with on a different life path. Central to our impact is the pillar of leadership. We aim to develop Student leaders who show transformational change both in themselves and their classroom, community, and country.
