Mission Statement
Snehalaya is a non-profit, charitable, philanthropic, non-political social service organization founded in 1989. Snehalaya is working for the last segment of our society since last 26 years. Initially, we have worked for the victims i.e. women in flesh trade and their off springs. Later while facing the different challenges, Snehalaya has started the various path finding initiatives for the children and women suffering from H.I.V.-Aids, child prostitutes, slum children, the children of other special needs. Presently, Snehalaya is running 22 different types of grass root social initiatives with the help of small and individual donors. The prostitutes are the life members, the trustees and the prime donors. Though most of the rehabilitation projects are based in Ahmednagar, we have admitted the beneficiaries from all over the country. Snehalaya is working on national level crossing the artificial barricades of caste, creed, region and religion.

Overview of Snehalaya Projects: A. Snehnirman----------------- focuses on rehabilitation of HIV infected women and children, children of prostitutes, minors rescued from sexual slavery and other such neglected sections of our society. It includes the activities like Rehab. Center, where total 350 children and 60 women are residing. The center occupies 8 acres of land in MIDC area of Ahmednagar providing food, shelter, and clothing, health, social atmosphere and education facilities free of charge. A vocational training center on the same premises further supports rehabilitation efforts. • In addition to this we have launched the Snehankur Adoption Centre in 2004. This centre provides care and protection to abandoned infants by unwed mothers and rape victims. Snehankur strives to find the right home for every orphaned child. Another unique feature of Snehankur is the rehabilitation of unwed mothers. These mothers are cared for at Snehankur during their pregnancy and their children are placed in good respectable homes thereafter. In the event of the unwed mother being abandoned by her family, Snehankur helps in rehabilitating her. Since 2003, more than two hundred infants and children have been rescued, rehabilitated and placed in good homes. Snehankur boasts 'zero mortality' of children and mothers in its care. • Another important project of Snehalaya is Snehadhar which has become the first helpline in India for Female Sex Workers (FSW). She was in poverty. Aunt worked in fields. By doing labor work, she raised me and her children. I always got ill in my childhood by various diseases. My grandma managed to complete my education till 10th. I couldn’t afford to learn post 10th due to poverty. My relatives strictly warned not to appear anywhere near their house. I was refrained from attending family marriages and programs. I often searched the reason to live a life. I was too panicked to live a life. In middle of this my grandma heard about Snehalaya’s orphan house and baby care from villagers. Grandma admitted me to Snehalaya. I was always ill in Shehalaya as well. Then I was sent for medical tests. It was found that I was HIV+. An ART treatment was started thereafter. Snehalaya decided to complete my higher education. After completion of 12th, they sent me to complete studies for becoming a nurse. I work at Snehalaya’s hospital as a nurse these days. Courage, several attempts to succeed and interests earned me a life I live.
