About This Cause
The Humanitarian “Nineveh Relief” Organization (HNRO) was founded by Nineveh IDPs in the immediate aftermath of the summer of 2014 to mitigate the effects of displacement and advocate for our community’s future. We are an independent, non-governmental, non-profit organization which works to provide desperately needed humanitarian services to all people effected by the mass violence in Iraq, regardless of religious or ethnic identity. HNRO is a trusted ally and competent advocate for forcibly displaced and all vulnerable people in Iraq, and has significant experience managing donor financed programs. We run two medical clinics that each serve over 600 IDPs a week with an annual budget of over $830,000 through grants from international organizations. As well as considering to set up medical centers in Neneveh Plain for the returnees. We provide occupational training, Music, English, and French courses; manage complex cancer treatment; and, provide food aid to refugee camps. We are also currently conducting a study on social trust post displacement, with grants from Stanford's Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies and the Stanford Center for International Development. Our staff is composed of IDPs and Americans from a range of ethnic and religious backgrounds. Using our diverse strengths and unique local expertise, we aim to expand HNRO’s services in response to the growing need among IDPs and returnees to their cities of origin in Nineveh Plain for access to food (through initiating agricultural and farming projects), education, employment and social-emotional rehabilitation.
