Mission Statement
NISIG’s vision is for those facing reproductive challenges to be supported, along with the families created through that support, in a society that is fully accepting of them. Its mission is to provide practical supports to, and advocate on behalf of, those who experience reproductive challenges, and their families
About This Cause
NISIG was established in 1996, and is the only charity in Ireland focusing on infertility. Its mission is to provide practical supports to, and advocate on behalf of, those who experience reproductive challenges, and their families The ability to have a child is taken for granted by most people and by society in general, but one in six will have difficulty conceiving and may seek medical help to achieve a pregnancy. Infertility has the potential to dominate a person or a couple’s life, bringing great personal despair and suffering. The feelings experienced by infertile couples can include disbelief, isolation, exclusion, anger and depression. People can often feel at a loss as to where to turn for support, and often will not even confide in family or friends. Tied with an often-bewildering set of treatment options, there is a real need for a support group to allow people to initially come to terms with their situation, to work through it and to come to an informed decision on what treatment options are appropriate for them. The aim of the organisation is to support those facing reproductive challenges, along with the families created, in a society that is fully accepting of them. The objectives of the organisation are to: hold support group meetings throughout the country support the families created through AHR host a dedicated telephone support number for those seeking support, guidance and advice advocate on behalf of our membership and all those on the journey to have a family produce and disseminate high quality information promote awareness of the issue through media, research and seminars.
