About This Cause
Nas na Riogh Housing Association is a registered charity whose main aim is to provide Independent living for elderly people in the heart of a vibrant community .It is housed in the old Sisters of Mercy convent building with 13 apartments located in this building and a further 40 apartments located in a three story apartment block at the rear of the convent building. Its location is key as it is extremely central being located right beside the parish church and a 2 minute walk to the local shop, pub, hairdressers etc. 75% of the apartments are allocated to social housing and the remainder are allocated to private residents. All the apartments are 1 bedroom with white goods and unfurnished. The vibrant community is created by the Convent Tea Rooms that we run which is open to the community as well as the residents and offers freshly baked produce served on fine china in a beautifully furnished setting. We also run the Arts and Culture Centre which is located in the Old Nuns Chapel ,which is now deconsecrated .There are art related workshops held in this building and also concerts, meditation ,Tai Chi ,non religious weddings plus dancing and choirs. The Community Centre is also part of our complex and there are 8 rooms in this building consisting of meeting rooms, counselling rooms,a music room and a main hall. There are a wide range of activities held in this building from AA meetings ,ballet, after school clubs, active retirement plus many more. We also opened a charity store in the past 12 months whose main aim is to be a fundraising entity for the organisation. The final piece of the McAuley Place jigsaw is to open a Health Through Learning Centre in the original nuns convent dated 1894 with a 1 acre woodland garden at the rear of the building which will be a sensory tranquil garden opened to both the general public and the residents. The garden has been landscaped with funding from the National Lottery and our aim is to raise enough funds to open the Health Through learning centre in the next few years. This building will host art related activity consisting of basket weaving, wood turning and an artist in residence as well as many other activities.
