Mission Statement
Bru Columbanus Bru Columbanus provides home-from-home accommodation to the families of seriously ill patients receiving care in Cork hospitals and the hospice. Our facility is especially vital for parents of sick children and premature babies, offering them a safe, supportive, and welcoming place to stay—just minutes from their loved ones. We are committed to easing the emotional and financial burden for families during some of the most difficult times in their lives.
About This Cause
About Brú Columbanus Brú Columbanus is a charity that provides temporary accommodation, free of charge, to families of seriously ill patients in Cork hospitals. Our facility includes 31 en-suite family rooms along with shared kitchens and lounges, creating a comforting and supportive environment where families can connect with others facing similar challenges and draw strength from shared experiences. Accommodation is arranged through referrals from hospital staff such as clinical nurse managers, nurses, and social workers. This close partnership with hospitals ensures that support reaches those who need it most during times of crisis. We operate with a minimal number of paid staff and are supported by a dedicated team of over 70 volunteers. Each day, volunteers help clean rooms, cover reception duties, and support our fundraising efforts, playing an essential role in keeping the house running. Brú Columbanus receives no government funding and is entirely dependent on donations and fundraising to cover the cost of operations. Every contribution directly helps families stay close to their loved ones during difficult times.
