Mission Statement
Cork City Partnership is a Local Development Company covering Cork City. The Directors are drawn from the community and voluntary sector, public bodies, local elected representatives and social partners. The Partnership aims to counter disadvantage, promote equality and foster social inclusion and economic inclusion, through supporting communities that work collectively to meet local needs and who are committed to maximising the potential of their areas. It does this through two main strands – education and community development, and employment and enterprise. It provides services for the unemployed, community development and education initiatives to its target groups.
About This Cause
Friendly Call Cork operates under the remit of Cork City Partnership, from its outreach office in Churchfield. Gurranabraher Community Games is also supported through this office. Friendly Call Cork is a free service providing a phone call 5 days a week which is available to older people or individuals who may feel lonely, isolated and vulnerable in the Cork City and surrounding areas; the service specifically targets people with chronic illness or anyone who cannot engage in an active way in the community. Through the daily phone call, Friendly Call Cork provides friendship and security helping clients feel safer at home. If a client does not answer, the Friendly Caller will phone a member of their family, a neighbour or a friend. We currently ring 380 clients daily, Monday –Friday. We are constantly looking for ways to improve and enhance what we do. We have a wonderful team of over 70 volunteers Friendly Callers giving 4-5 hours per week. Friendly Call volunteers are making the phone calls from their homes/remotely to clients and keep in contact with the Development Worker at Friendly Call Cork if they have any issues or concerns. Friendly Call sends Birthday Cards and Christmas Cards to all clients; currently the cards are being made by one of our Friendly Call Volunteers. In late 2017, we introduced a Visiting Service for clients from newly recruited volunteers. As of February 2019, we are now providing over 45 home visits/befriending a week. This number is increasing every week as we train in new volunteers and match them with clients. In 2019, we purchased an 8 seater Renault Trafic Mini Bus which allows us to extend our services to include getting clients in need to hospital appointments and to our social events. Friendly Call Cork opened its phone call service to an unlimited number of new clients being referred to our call service as a result of COVID 19 restrictions and we are recruiting new volunteers to expand our service. We will need volunteers to ring them everyday. We will also need help getting shopping to individuals who have no family.
