About This Cause
Samaritans are available 24:7, 365 days a year. Call us on our freephone: 116 123 Email us at jo@samaritans.ie Its your call. No judgement, no pressure. Samaritans are here for you. Whoever you are, whatever you're going through, Samaritans are here to listen. Talk to us - if things are getting to you. We're always there - round the clock, every single day of the year. A safe place - as volunteers, we're ordinary people who give you the space to talk about what's troubling you. Be yourself - whoever you are, however you feel, whatever life's done to you. Dublin Samaritans celebrated 50 years of service in March of 2020. A few weeks later Ireland was in lockdown. We have been able to continue to provide our 24/7 service throughout the Covid pandemic due to the dedication of our 250 volunteers. Our callers on the phone and by email tell us how much worse Covid has made their situation. When a person is feeling alone, depressed and possibly suicidal, the pandemic can make these feelings of despair even more acute. Samaritans are there to listen to that person in their dark and troubled space and hear what is said without any judgement. Dublin Samaritans received over 85,300 phone calls in the last 12 months amounting to some 14,600 hours of listening. Despite changes to the appearance of Samaritans and technology used, the service that is offered by Samaritans today is no different from that of 1970. As long as Samaritans are needed they will be there.
