About This Cause
In January 2016 Fiona Tuomey, CEO of HUGG, lost her 11-year-old daughter Milly to suicide. Amid the pain, shock, and grief, was a burning desire to meet others who had walked this hellish road, but who were still living and functioning in the ‘real world’. Unfortunately, there was scant support available. So, she set about researching, collaborating and eventually setting up HUGG's first support group in 2017. HUGG was launched as a registered charity on what would have been Milly's 16th birthday. HUGG is a national suicide bereavement charity. We support adults who have been bereaved by suicide by reducing isolation and stigma and promoting resilience and healing. We work to achieve this through our HUGG peer support groups led by trained volunteers who all have a lived experience of suicide; by the provisions of telephone support, and by developing the HUGG.ie website as a reservoir of information on suicide bereavement.
