Mission Statement
For people who are blind and vision-impaired to have the same opportunities, rights and choices as others to fully participate in society.
About This Cause
At Vision Ireland, our mission is simple: to empower people who are blind or vision impaired to live full, independent lives with confidence and dignity. Every day, across the country, we walk alongside individuals and families facing the challenges of sight loss, offering the practical support, training, and understanding they need to move forward. We understand that losing your sight, whether gradually or suddenly, can be life-changing. That’s why we’re here from the very beginning, providing emotional reassurance, clear information, and personalised guidance to help people understand what their diagnosis means and how to adapt in ways that work for them. Our support is wide-ranging and person-centered. We offer services for adults, children, and young people, ensuring that everyone has access to the tools and skills they need to thrive. From orientation and mobility training to daily living skills, counselling, and access to assistive technologies, we focus on what matters most to each person. We also work with children and their families to ensure they can play, learn, and grow alongside their peers. Through education supports, mobility training, and specialist advice, we help set children up for a bright and independent future. Technology plays a key role in enhancing independence, and our Vision Ireland Labs provide assessments, demonstrations, and training for a range of assistive devices. We ensure that everyone has the opportunity to discover and benefit from the right solutions for their lifestyle. But our work doesn’t stop at individual support. We are passionate advocates for a more inclusive society, one where the needs and voices of people with sight loss are recognised, respected, and built into the fabric of everyday life. Our Policy and Advocacy team works closely with policymakers, urban planners, educators, and employers to improve access to transport, public spaces, information, and digital services. We also connect with eye care professionals, teachers, social workers, and local communities, bringing everyone together to build a strong support network around each individual. Our work is underpinned by the values of empowerment, inclusion, and innovation. As part of the NCBI Group, we are proud to be part of a wider movement committed to creating equal opportunities and transforming systems to better support people with vision impairment. At Vision Ireland, we don’t just support people living with sight loss, we champion their rights, celebrate their strengths, and help build a world that sees their potential.
