Mission Statement
The Irish Red Cross is at the Forefront of delivering aid to vulnerable people in Ireland and in countries around the world that have been struck by wars or natural disasters. The Irish Red Cross is part of the largest global network of voluntary humanitarian action in the world – the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement which has a national organisation in nearly every country in the world – some 185 Red Cross and Red Crescent societies in total.
About This Cause
The Irish Red Cross is dedicated to the provision of emergency and humanitarian relief both at home and abroad through its network of volunteers. In Ireland, the Red Cross provides both emergency services through its fleet of ambulances, mountain rescue teams as well as a variety of community services including youth work and care for the sick and the elderly. The Irish Red Cross voluntary ambulance service is active in communities across Ireland, providing support at community events and to the Emergency Services in times of need. In the last few years we have been called upon during times of extreme weather such as floods and snow. During these periods we have been involved in numerous activities including delivering prescription medication and hospital patient transport. There are a range of programmes providing support to vulnerable community groups such as the Prisons Programme (Community Based Health and First Aid in Action) and working with individuals with disfiguring skin conditions. Irish Red Cross volunteers provide a skin camouflage service, changing their quality of life immeasurably. Volunteers also provide a therapeutic hand care service to older members of the community, providing vital human contact and psychological support. Overseas, the Irish Red Cross has earned a distinctive reputation for the skill and commitment of delegates sent to work in disaster zones around the world. Delegates from the Irish Red Cross have worked in roughly 60 different countries dealing with strife, sickness and disaster.
