Mission Statement

Concern Worldwide's mission is to help people living in extreme poverty to achieve major improvements in their lives which last and spread without ongoing support from Concern. Our goal is to reach the furthest behind first. To achieve this mission we engage in long term development work, build resilience, rapidly respond to emergencies and seek to address the root causes of poverty through our development, education and advocacy activities. When an emergency strikes, we are among the first on the ground - mobilising expert teams in just 24 hours. From earthquakes in Turkiye-Syria, humanitarian crisis in Sudan and severe hunger in the Horn of Africa, we go to the ends of the earth to reach the most vulnerable. For the voiceless, we use our voices to bring human stories of extreme poverty to the tables of world leaders. Our mission doesn't stop until extreme poverty does.

About This Cause

Concern Worldwide is Ireland's largest international humanitarian aid agency. Since our foundation in 1968, as a response to famine in Biafra, for over 50 years Concern has been fighting poverty and we’re still working with the world’s most vulnerable people to help reduce suffering and combat poverty and hunger. Our single vision is of a world without hunger, poverty, fear or oppression. Today we are a team of nearly 4,000 highly skilled and dedicated professionals from 50 countries who share an exceptional depth of knowledge and diversity of experience. We have a track record in developing cutting-edge approaches that have pushed the boundaries of innovation in maternal and child health care, emergency response and more. In 2023, we reached 15.5 million people through our emergency responses (we responded to 66 emergencies in 20 countries), 9 million people through our health and nutrition programmes, 2.3 million people through our livelihoods programmes, 2.3 million through integrated programmes and 1.1 million people through our education programmes. Thanks to your support and the support of all our amazing donors, over 30 million people in extreme poverty around the world were supported by Concern's programmes. We currently have programmes active in 25 countries across three continents. We work across some of the hardest to reach, most fragile and conflict-affected contexts around the globe, to reach even the most remote communities in extreme poverty and hunger, helping those caught up in emergencies and the effects of an intensifying climate crisis. Our work also builds resilience, with our livelihoods programmes giving people the tools they need to ensure they are able to earn a sustainable living, learn new skills, improve the productivity and nutritional value of their crops and set up small businesses to generate more income for their families and communities. Accountability and transparency are central to our values as an organisation. We're committed to using donations to transform the lives of some of the poorest people in the world. For every euro donated, 89.9% goes to our international relief and development work, spent directly on our goal of ending extreme poverty. If you would like to find out more, please email corporate@concern.net and we would be happy to share further details on how you can make a difference and support our work to bring an end to extreme poverty, whatever it takes.
