Mission Statement

Aware undertakes to create a society where people affected by stress, depression, bipolar and mood disorders are understood, supported, free from stigma, and are encouraged to access appropriate therapies.

About This Cause

Aware is the national organisation providing free support, education and information to people affected by depression, bipolar disorder, and related mood conditions. We're able to provide these vital services FREE to the public due to the generosity of our supporters like you, Corporate Partners and almost 350 fantastic volunteers around the country. Aware receives only 20-25% of its funding from the State. Founded in 1985 and providing support 365 days a year, Aware offers a free Support Line; in-person, online and phone Support and Self Care groups; a Support Mail service and Adult, school and workplace educational programmes. In 2023, Aware directly supported approx. 40,000 people via our FREE support services and education programmes, with over 500,000 people accessing our website for information and resources. With the World Health Organisation predicting that depression will be a leading cause of worldwide disease burden and the leading cause of mortality and morbidity by 2030, unfortunately we expect demand for our services to only go one way – up. Aware’s message is one of hope: recovery is possible. Freephone: 1800 80 48 48
