Mission Statement

The Dublin Rape Crisis Centre provides counselling for men and women who have been raped, assaulted or sexually abuse in childhood.

About This Cause

At the Dublin Rape Crisis Centre, we aim to ensure that every person, man or woman, young or old, who has been violated and hurt by rape, sexual assault, or childhood sexual abuse, is given the necessary support and counselling. Rape and childhood sexual abuse are terrible crimes that happen to people we all know – your work colleague, your daughter, your son, your friend, your neighbour. These crimes cross every social divide, affect women and men, children and the elderly. They impact not only on the person assaulted but also on their families and wider society. Our 24 Hour National Helpline is a fundamental part of our service and speaking to a telephone counsellor is often the first step to recovery and healing. The Helpline is open 365 days a year - 1800 77 8888 All calls are handled with compassion, understanding and most importantly belief. They listen, support and offer information on a wide range of issues; crisis calls from those recently raped or assaulted, those disclosing past childhood sexual abuse and family members and professionals looking for advice. Our work costs significantly more than the State support we receive and we must acquire one third of our annual income through fundraising. The key services provided are Crisis Counselling Service for recent victims of rape and sexual assault; Longer term therapy for adult victims of childhood sexual abuse and past sexual violence; Accompaniment to the Sexual Assault Unit; Court accompaniment; Outreach talks to schools and community groups; Training of professionals who work with victims of rape, sexual assault and sexual abuse in Ireland; Campaigning, lobbying and awareness raising; Research and statistics.
