Mission Statement

The Mater Hospital Foundation is the official charity supporting the work of the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital (also known as the Mater Public Hospital), located in Dublin 7, in the North Inner City. The hospital is both a local acute and national specialist hospital for many serious illnesses. The foundation exists to give every patient and their loved ones, the very best care at the hospital. We fund projects that transform patient care and provide our doctors and nurses with the best life-saving equipment and facilities money can buy. We also invest in clinical research and ground-breaking innovations. We strive to make the ordinary, extraordinary for more than 420,000 patients who come through our doors each year - many in need of life-saving care.

About This Cause

We have one specific goal – to continuously improve and transform patient care in the Mater Public Hospital. Founded in 1985, the Mater Foundation has granted over €40m to hospital projects since then under four key areas: - Advancing Medical Equipment; - New Services and Hospital Redevelopment; - Research and Innovation; - Patient, Family and Staff Support. The hospital provides national care for Ireland for many specialisms, including (1) Heart & Lung Transplants (2) Respiratory Conditions such as COPD (3) Serious Spinal Injuries (4) Infectious Diseases (5) Heart Surgery and many other conditions It has a staff of over 4,200 who care for over 400,000 Irish patients each year. It is one of two national trauma centres for Ireland, and also a university training hospital with strong track record in clinical research and medical innovation. The Mater Foundation’s role is to help provide essential funding in order for the hospital to offer the best in care and comfort to all of its patients.
