Mission Statement

SHEP is a values-led organisation that works together with individuals and communities to develop capacities for positive change and for the enhancement of health and well-being. We do this through a range of integrated personal, community, environmental and global development initiatives.

About This Cause

SHEP is a not-for-profit, community-based training and development organisation established in Cork in 1974. Our key areas of work include: a unique training programme based on experiential group work approaches; advocacy; low-cost counselling; providing specialist support to community-based organisations organisations, and international partnership. SHEP works with people from all backgrounds but seeks to ensure the inclusion of people who are experiencing different kinds of disadvantage or distress. We currently work in Cork, Kerry and Limerick. SHEP also supports the work of our international partner, Sahakarmi Samaj, which works in southwest Nepal. SHEP pioneered the use in Ireland of structured experiential training and participatory group work. SHEP’s early work with young people was mainstreamed through the Social, Personal and Health Education (SPHE) Programme in Irish schools. SHEP now works primarily with adults.
