Mission Statement
1. Type of School Coláiste Íosagáin is an all girls, Irish medium, Catholic voluntary secondary school, founded in 1971 under the trusteeship of the Sisters of Mercy. The school was set up to provide secondary education through Irish for girls in south Dublin. It shares a campus with Coláiste Eoin, an all boys, Irish medium, Catholic voluntary secondary school, with whom we work very closely, particularly in the senior cycle. As a result, many of our senior classes are co-educational. Since September 2008, the school has been under the patronage of the Edmund Rice Schools Trust. 2. Ethos The ethos of our school is based on the vision and values of the Edmund Rice Schools Charter. The five characteristics which underpin every Edmund Rice School are the following: • Nurturing faith, Christian spirituality and Gospel based values • Promoting partnership in the school community • Excellence in teaching and learning • Creating a caring school community • Inspiring transformational leadership The Edmund Rice School - in partnership with the home and the parish - seeks to nurture and encourage a distinctive Christian spirituality. The hallmarks of an Edmund Rice School are care for those who are vulnerable or disadvantaged in any way, and action for social and ecological justice. Religious education and practice is shaped by the desire to promote growth in spirituality and, because of this mission, the Edmund Rice school gives priority to religious education, spirituality, and pastoral care as well as action for social justice and eco-justice in the allocation of resources.
