About This Cause
Club Community Activities Irish Music nights Mungret St. Paul’s has a strong Gaelic connection with many members being past pupils of Gaelscoil an Ráithín (which is now located right next door) and other Irish schools. We have members organising Irish Language events (Pop-up-Gaeltacht, spórt, rásanna, picnic, dioscó, ciorcal comhrá etc) throughout the year as well as Irish Music nights for both adults and Children, and of course Seachtain na Gaeilge in the run up to St. Patrick’s day. We also have members regularly visit schools and Gaelscoileanna to coach Hurling and Gaelic too. These events provide an opportunity for people to re-engage with their memories of Irish, or practice the cúpla focail, or even immerse themselves into full flow caint as Gaeilge. Members of the community are always welcome to celebrate the Irish Culture and community events like the Irish Music nights or Pop-up-Gaeltachts provide that opportunity for anyone from any background. The club encourages Irish Culture and are active in promoting the sport and language and are supported by Fonduireacht Sheosaimh Mhic Dhonncha and Glór na nGael. Music festival Mungret music festival was a popular tradition in the past attracting people from all over the country to the summer festival which hosted not only music but also amusements , tournaments and food. 30 years later Mungret Music festival made a huge comeback with some big names such as Nathan Carter/ Aslan / The Stunning / Hothouse flowers/ Hermitage Green and a lot more. The idea behind the revival of this popular summer festival was to of course revive the tradition that took place in Mungret over 30 years ago but also to help raise funds for the ongoing development of Mungret St Pauls GAA club .It was a real community event. 10K run Fundraiser Table Quiz The tension can be cut with a knife on some of our table quiz nights, these are generally run by members of the club to raise funds for local charities. A recent example is a fund raiser set up by one of our club members, Cian O’Brien; I travelled to ‘Flame of Hope’ in January 2017 and 2018. ‘Flame of Hope’ is a home and school for mentally and physically disabled children in Siliguri,West Bengal,India. I held a table quiz to raise funds for the school prior to travelling. It was very well supported by the local community as we raised over €14,000 Pieta House Pieta is a suicide and self-harm crisis centre that provides a professional, face to face programme of therapy for those who are experiencing suicidal ideation, those who have attempted suicide, those who self-harm and those bereaved by suicide .
