About This Cause

A non-profit NGO helping people with disabilities since 1991, Chimes Israel helps people with disabilities use their abilities and skills to lead a life of dignity, independence, and community participation. Organizational Framework Our clients range in age from infant to elderly and live with cognitive disabilities, autism, developmental delays, genetic syndromes, mental health issues, and more. Chimes Israel’s 25 professional programs work with over 14 different local authorities across Israel. The Israeli ministries of social affairs, health, and education support and license the programs. Israel’s National Insurance Institute and the Shalem Foundation predominately fund Chimes Israel’s buildings, equipment and special programs. Chimes Israel receives additional support from various public and private foundations, agencies and individual donors. Programs & Services Chimes is known as Israel’s pioneer and innovator in the area of comprehensive early childhood rehabilitation for children ages six months to three years with developmental delays, autism, genetic diseases, and syndromes. We were the first in Israel to offer families of children with disabilities everything they needed under one roof: diagnoses, therapy, daycare, education, and family counseling. The services are supervised and determined by Ministry of Education and comply with Israel’s Rehabilitation Day Care Centers Law. Chimes maintains eight early childhood treatment and rehabilitative daycare centers for preschool children, and six recreational, social, and therapeutic after-school programs for school-aged children. For the early childhood center, diagnosis, treatment, and intensive supervision help monitor each child’s development, and promote personal achievement in cognitive, motor, and emotional areas. The after-school programs give the children leisure and care while their parents are at work. For adults with intellectual and mental disabilities, Chimes provides services that help them find and maintain employment. For those living independently, Chimes assigns caseworkers who assist in all facets of their daily lives including employment, residential, and recreational time. We also maintain social clubs for adults with intellectual disabilities and mental illness. For those with severe disabilities, Chimes has rehabilitation and nursing daycare centers that provide individualized services. Our series of services in the field of employment are adapted to different functional levels and abilities as well as employment choices. The network of employment services help about 750 recipients and includes bespoke programs adapted to the evolving service recipient needs. Chimes Israel operates three nursing daycare centers for adults with disabilities, where about 120 service recipients receive a variety of ever-changing services. The centers provide paramedical treatment and therapy promoting daily independence, personal choice, and expression. The activities include opportunities for integration and participation in the community. For adults with disabilities who live independently or with a spouse or parent, we run three "Supportive Environment" programs to promote, accompany, and monitor their daily lives. The program also provides a supportive community social network. In addition, Chimes Israel is involved in the Ministry of Welfare’s pilot program to provide supportive environment services to families raising a child with disabilities. Chimes Israel also runs two social clubs for people with intellectual disabilities and mental illness. The clubs have leisure and enrichment activities that provide an opportunity for an increased sense of belonging, social connections, and enjoyment. Awards & Accreditations Chimes Israel and the city of Tel Aviv-Jaffa’s "Supportive Community" and "Employment to your Doorstep" programs have received Keren Shalem Excellence Awards. Our Amal afterschool program in Holon was the first in Israel for youth with disabilities selected to join the "International Award for Young People." Chimes Israel is accredited by Midot, which grants accreditation to organizations that demonstrate sound program management and effective use of resources. Chimes Israel was the first Israeli non-profit to achieve ISO 9001 quality standard accreditation, certifying organizational process management excellence and efficiency.
