About This Cause
THE REALITY: Each year, more than 1,500 children in Israel are diagnosed with cancer and the number is growing. Due to the grim diagnosis of this disease, hospitalization and treatments, the children and their families face a nightmarish scenario of emotional, functional, and economic challenges including anxiety, despair, confusion, isolation, ability to purchase life-saving medications, and finding financial support when the parents’ income is drastically affected. Larger Than Life is Israel’s largest and most effective pediatric cancer organization with more than 20 programs supporting children and their families. We base our work on a three-pronged approach: HEALTH, HAPPINESS, and HOPE. HEALTH. No child should perish because of inadequate funding. We provide financial assistance to purchase life-saving medications, innovative treatments, and logistical support to navigate the maze of the health care system. We also provide professional psychological care to the families. HAPPINESS. Children and their families need opportunities to step away from the white walls of the hospital and partake in joyous events, giving them the strength to fight this disease. We offer the children “Disney Dream Trips” to Orlando or Los Angeles, family trips closer to home in Eilat and great summer camp and holiday experiences HOPE. We instill this in the heart of every child, parent, and sibling affected by childhood cancer. To that end, we’ve built “The Kindergarten of Dreams” in central Israel, providing a medically safe, socially and educationally enriching environment for young children to grow and heal, while allowing parents to return to work as worry-free as possible. We are currently building a second, extended sterile educational/recovery center in Be’er Sheva and have plans to build others in Jerusalem and Haifa, ensuring that all children in need in Israel will have access to this unique opportunity.
