Mission Statement
Wikimedia ITALIA is the Italian Chapter of Wikimedia Foundation and promotes the spread of knowledge, free culture and the open access. Among several projects it develops Wikipedia is the most well known. Since January 2016 Wikimedia Italia is the italian chapter of OSM foundation.
About This Cause
Wikimedia ITALIA's projects are aimed to develop Italian Wikipedia and realize projects such as: Wiki Loves Monuments (for the diffusion of free imagines of Italian monuments), initiatives with libraries and museums, OSM but also Wikisource and Wikidata. Wikimedia ITALIA is an association with 400 members more or less. The volunteers are organized on a geographical and a thematic basis: we have national and local coordinators for the main programs. The main efforts over the last two years have been focused on the follwing areas: the launch of an educational project at a national level, the improvement of content quality on Italian Wikipedia, the recognition of WMIT as the official local chapter of the OpenStreetMap Foundation and a more structured relationship with the Wikidata community.
