Mission Statement

Dokita is a non-profit organization, active since 1970, which combats social exclusion of people living in particular conditions of poverty and marginalization by promoting inclusion and the full enjoyment of fundamental human rights. Our main beneficiaries are children, orphans, persons with disabilities, women in need or victims of violence in Africa, Latin America, Asia. Our projects are focused on the fields of education, health, emergency, disability, migration.

About This Cause

Dokita is recognized by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs as a Non Governmental Organization (NGO) since 1991 (Decree 1991/128001024/6 of 08.04.1991). Its mission is to build a different world in which every person has the same dignity and opportunities without discrimination or obstacles due to physical or social conditions. Dokita fights against exclusion of people living in conditions of marginalization, extreme poverty and particular difficulty and it works in order to give them full inclusion and to facilitate concrete improvements in their living conditions by supporting welfare services, health and education. The association refers to the ideals of service and human development and in its work it uses skills and experience gained in the last century in Italy and abroad, creating a culture of volunteerism, cooperation, solidarity, tolerance, peace, equality and respect for diversity. In Italy, Dokita conducts information and awareness campaigns on global education, diversity, tolerance and peace. It is engaged in activities aimed at the integration of immigrants such as protection of the rights, teaching of Italian language, vocational training, housing refugees as well as advocacy activities within the group "Migration and Development" of the European NGO platform named CONCORD. It produces and distributes a magazine named Dokita on the themes of solidarity, cooperation and international migration, with a circulation of about 6,000 copies per year. It operates also through its volunteers dislocated on the Italian territory. In Africa, Dokita is active in Cameroon, Chad, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ivory Coast, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Equatorial Guinea with plans for education, health, literacy, rural development, physical and social rehabilitation for persons with disabilities and programmes for protection and self-development of ethnic minorities and child soldiers. Dokita also realized two humanitarian projects for Ebola emergence supporting health centers. In the European region of the Balkans, Dokita worked in Albania with projects of vocational training and university education, in the health sector with rehabilitation and promotion of awareness on issues related to physiotherapy and disability. In South America, Dokita is active in Honduras, Brazil, Bolivia, Peru and Argentina in protection of women deprived of freedom, in formal and informal learning and social development and in micro-entrepreneurial field. In Asia, Dokita is active in India with host, health and educational projects for children with physical and mental disabilities, and in the Philippines with projects for the relief and prevention of natural disasters.
