Peace Boat Disaster Relief Volunteer Center (PBV) is an International NGO working to assist disaster-affected people and strengthen disaster resilience of communities in Japan and around the world. PBV was established by NGO Peace Boat after the Great East-Japan Earthquake and Tsunami. Peace Boat has carried out emergency relief operations for over 20 years since the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake in Kobe, Japan in 1995. Peace Boat and PBV have organized emergency relief operations in a number of countries around the world, including Turkey, Taiwan, Algeria, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Indonesia, Chile, Guatemala, USA and the Philippines. PBV believes that, above all else, people are the key to reducing disaster risk, building resilience and minimizing impacts of disasters.
Peace Boat Disaster Relief Volunteer Center has provided comprehensive support to disaster affected areas as well as engaged in various activities for disaster risk reduction education. As a specialist organization, PBV focuses on:
-The relief and recovery of communities affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami;
Domestic and international disaster relief; and
Disaster risk reduction (i.e., disaster preparedness, prevention, mitigation, response and recovery), such as the training, dispatch and coordination of volunteers.
