Mission Statement
The mission of the "Dara" Foundation is to implement projects aimed at improving the living conditions and expanding development opportunities for teenagers from orphanages and children with special educational needs.
About This Cause
Dara Private Foundation has been working since 2007 to help children from vulnerable groups – the teenagers from orphanages and children with special educational needs. According to its mission the Foundation contributes to expanding opportunities for children to receive a quality education, development, treatment, socialization and future employment through the work with children's educational state institutions. Over 100 successful projects have been implemented by the Foundation during its existence, including in the area of children's education, development and rehabilitation. There have been significant achievements in projects to introduce new medical technologies in the past (e.g., the implementation of cardiac surgeries for premature and low-birth-weight infants, the pediatric catheters in the rehabilitation of newborns, the hippotherapy for children with disabilities and so on). Currently the Foundation operates two programs in the sphere of educational initiatives: "Different But Equal: Developing of Inclusive society in Kazakhstan" for children with special educational needs and "Mentors" for teenagers in orphanages. Within the framework of these programs the Foundation realizes the projects on early development (the opening of 51Psychological and pedagogical service centers in regions of Kazakhstan), inclusive and integrated education (the opening of 65 Resource centers of inclusive education in regions of Kazakhstan and 15 classes for children with visually impairment in Kazakhstan) and the socialization of orphans (the "Mentors" program has been realized in 18 regions). As part of these programs the Foundation also pays considerable attention to expand children's leisure time and engage them in sports, culture and education (a mini-football team for children with hearing impairment, a dance team for children with speech impairments, educational courses for children in orphanages, as well as audio description of museum’s objects of art for the children with visually impairment.) The Foundation's projects are characterized by a systematic approach – under the solving social problems in a long-term perspective, with the participation and involvement of government agencies, Laying the groundwork for continued project results in the form of functioning working systems, changes in legislation and the adoption of practical measures.). We were also among the first to initiated and widely applied the approach of public-private-partnership in charity activities. The Foundation actively participates in the development of proposals for improving legislation and practice in terms of implementing the rights of children with special educational needs and orphans, as well as cooperates with other public organizations in the promotion of reforms.
