Mission Statement

KBDCA is a non-profit organization founded in 1995 by Leukemia patients in order to help patients with blood disease and cancer as well as caretakers to overcome various difficulties caused by the diagnosis. Since being approved as a corporation under the Ministry of Health and Welfare in 2003, KBDCA has provided patients with blood disease and cancer with financial, treatment-related, educational, emotional, and other supports in order to assist them to get over their diseases and to go back to their daily lives with success. KBDCA engages in the publication of bimonthly magazine called ‘HOPE’ for the purpose of providing the proper information about diseases and treatments for patients as well. Moreover, KBDCA actively participate in the research projects designed to publicize the difficulties from the process of treatments and to improve the treatment environments. KBDCA actively collaborate with global patient organizations from Europe, North America, Asia and others by attending the conferences, participating in the global surveys, promoting awareness day campaign, and other patient advocacy activities. There are four missions of KBDCA as follows: 1) To establish a sustainable and proper paradigm for patient supports, 2) To provide patients with the customized education for each disease, 3) To actively engage in academic research projects through collaboration with foreign patient advocacy organizations, and 4) To actively carry out patient advocacy activities for achieving the new therapies and early reimbursements. KBDCA will continuously seek the way to contribute to address the unmet needs of patients, to help them to overcome their diseases, and, finally, return to the society.

About This Cause

KBDCA, founded in 1995 by Leukemia patients, is a non-profit organization that provides various support programs for patients with blood disease and cancer and caretakers in order to help them to overcome their diseases and to successfully return to their normal lives. Those programs include financial support, treatment-related support, educational support, emotional support, rehabilitation support, and others. First, KBDCA provides the financial supports for the treatment by subsidizing treatment costs for patients with financial hardship. KBDCA also provides medicine cost support for patients who experience financial difficulties due to expensive medicine cost. Additionally, KBDCA offer support for medical assistance expenses for support of expenses incurred during the medical treatment process. Second, KBDCA provides the treatment-related supports such as supports of blood donation certificate for patients who have financial difficulties due to the frequent blood transfusions. KBDCA provides the wig supports for patients who experience hair loss due to the chemotherapy. Additionally, KBDCA provides the free lodge lent program for patients and families to have a trip during the treatment. KBDCA provides an infection prevention program that disinfect the home of patients to prevent the infection. Third, KBDCA provides the medical education and counselling programs hosted by the medical professionals through both online and offline methods. The education programs in person may include Public Lecture, Small-sized Medical Seminar, called ‘Hope Solution’, and Medical Mentoring programs. The Public Lecture program, held at the large lecture halls, provides the lecture about disease and treatments by 5-6 medical professionals for about more than 300 patients and caretakers. ‘Hope Solution’ is a small-size medical seminar that provides the treatment-related lectures by the medical professional for about 30-40 patients and caretakers. The Medical Mentoring program is a medical counselling program during which the medical professional provides the counselling for patients and caretakers about the treatments. KBDCA plans to provide various education programs described above for varied diseases such as lymphoma, Aplastic anemia, multiple myeloma, myelodysplastic syndrome, acute myeloma Leukemia, breast cancer, prostate cancer, and others in 2022 as well. Online program include the Online Webinar, Online Public Lecture, and Phone Seminar. Online Webinar is the online medical seminar that provides the lecture about diseases and treatments by 1-2 medical professionals. Through Online Public Lecture, patients and caretakers have an opportunity to ask the treatment-related questions and to get answered from the medical professionals besides the lectures given by them. The phone seminar is designed to provide the counselling by the medical professionals through phone in order to offer the treatment-related information for patients and caretakers who can’t attend the education programs due to the distance. All of those education programs are designed to help patients to have the better treatment and prognosis based on accurate information. Fourth, Rehabilitation programs, called ‘Hope Tree’ program, assist patients and families to improve the life quality and to go back to daily lives during or after treatments. Physical Activity, Art Therapy and Psychological Counselling provide the opportunity to increase the physical strength and to overcome the emotional difficulties caused by the disease. KBDCA also provides the outdoor programs such as Mountain Hiking, Wellness Outdoor Activities and Cinema Therapy. A group of patients, families and medical professionals have a chance to interact with each others to improve the emotional well-being and to experience healing through those activities. Fifth, KBDCA actively engages in promoting its programs and providing the proper information by publishing the bimonthly magazine called ‘HOPE’. The patients and caretakers are able to attain the valuable information about their diseases, treatments, medication, the education programs, patients’ stories, and others. Sixth, KBDCA provides the emotional support and cultural experiences to patients and caretakers by hosting or inviting varied charity performances such as musical theater, concerts, theater performance and others. Seventh, KBDCA actively interacts and collaborates with global patient advocacy organizations in Europe, America, Asia, Oceania and others. Those organizations include Lymphoma Coaliton, International Myeloma Foundation, ALAN, CLL Advocates Networks, CML Advocates Networks, MPN Advocates Networks and others. KBDCA participates in global summit and conferences hosted by each organization in order to acquire the latest information about treatments and patient advocacy activities. Other collaborations include the participation in global survey to understand the needs of patients and caretakers and to provide the better supports for them. One of the important global activities may be participation in awareness campaign to increase the awareness on each disease. KBDCA produces badges, masks, T-shirts and hats with emblems of each disease, distributes them to the medical professionals and patients, and asks them to wear them during the outpatient treatments at the hospitals. KBDCA publicizes and promotes the efforts to increase the awareness of diseases among the public through press release. KBDCA also uploads the information about awareness campaigns through SNS such as KBDCA website, official instagram, facebook an others. KBDCA has been making efforts to provide the effective supports for patients and caretakers through various support programs in order to assist them to overcome the difficult period of their lives, and, finally, to regain their strength to walk their life journey with healthy body and mind. And KBDCA will be together with patients and caretakers on their journey for their well-being.
