About This Cause
Het Koffiehuis and Kledingwinkel on Haarlemmerstraat in Amsterdam city centre is a drop-in centre for homeless people and is open seven days a week. Het Koffiehuis provides a safe place for homeless visitors who often cannot find a place elsewhere in the city. As the Het Koffiehuis Amsterdam foundation is a social enterprise without subsidies, there are work projects in addition to coffee, lunch and clean clothes in which visitors can participate. The sweeping and greening crews work in the streets, creating a clean and colourful environment. In this way, local residents and tourists see that homeless people are and can be more than the prejudice often claims. The Clothing Shop offers free clothing to the participants of the work projects and the income from the clothes sold also benefits the participants.
