About This Cause

About Y+ Global Y+ Global is the largest global network of young people living with HIV, spanning over 41 countries. Our journey began in 2005 as a program and has since evolved into a registered organisation based in the Netherlands, with operations in South Africa. Our mission is to empower young people affected by HIV, giving them a voice in political and programmatic spaces. We advocate for their rights and health, bringing together youth from diverse backgrounds to connect with each other and global decision-makers. Our in-person programs and online outreach have already reached over 140,000 young individuals and impacted over 850,000 lives. At Y+ Global, young leadership is at the core of everything we do. Our programs are designed, led, and managed by the young people themselves, ensuring their voices are heard. We provide capacity building and support to country networks led by young people, addressing critical health and rights issues such as HIV, TB, Malaria, Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights, and Gender-Based Violence. We are known for challenging discriminatory laws that hinder access to essential health services based on identity and love. We stand on the frontline of the HIV response, advocating for marginalised groups, including young key populations and the LGBTQ+ community. About our organisational structure Our international board comprises young people living with HIV, representing diverse regions and backgrounds. They bring their lived experiences and expertise to drive our organisation forward. Supported by a passionate team of advocates and activists, we strive to create a positive impact on the lives of those affected by HIV. Our Executive Office team consists of 15 full-time staff members who are passionate, motivated, and skilled advocates striving to make a positive impact on the lives of those living with and affected by HIV. Our team is divided into various departments: programmes, communications, finance, and the executive office. As part of our objective to develop the knowledge and leadership skills of future leaders in the HIV response, we also employ graduate trainees. About our projects Through collaborations with youth-led organisations, UN agencies, and global partners, we work to equip young people with the skills and knowledge to become future leaders. We also establish partnerships with many organisations to develop resources that empower young people and enhance their involvement in addressing HIV. Our work encompasses research, training, and support for youth-led organisations. We offer comprehensive tools and resources, including reporting, financial management, program management, and monitoring and evaluation. All of these valuable resources can be accessed on our website. Over the past two years, we have collaborated with UNICEF ESARO and 2gether for SRHR, which is funded by the Government of Sweden, to implement the Ground Up project. The project aims to strengthen and enhance the leadership capacities of adolescents and young people living with HIV networks and youth-led movements in the East and Sub-Saharan Africa region. In 2022, we contributed to building the capacity of young people and youth-led networks at the national level, helping improve their operational capacity, partnerships, collaboration with key stakeholders, and impact. We also strengthened youth-led advocacy on key HIV and SRH issues affecting adolescents and young people, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. We facilitated the assessment of organisational capacity for six youth networks across Eswatini, Kenya, Namibia, Tanzania, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. This activity enabled them to identify areas of improvement, establish strategies and policies, and create necessary organisational documents. The ultimate objective was to enhance their capacity and effectively mitigate potential issues. In our advocacy, we launched various social media campaigns to raise awareness of young people's access to HIV and other health services, meaningful engagement, COVID-19, adolescent girls' and women's rights, young key populations and more. In 2021, we played a key role in amplifying the voices of young people in the High-Level Meeting on HIV/AIDS and ensuring young people had access to resources to implement advocacy efforts at the country level. Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, we have supported numerous youth-led organisations and networks. We provided them with short-term funding to help mitigate the impact of the pandemic on young people living with HIV, which included hygiene and food packages, as well as subsidised transportation expenses to health facilities for HIV, SRH, and GBV services. Additionally, we aided the Ukraine Network of PLHIV during the Russian invasion by ensuring that young people living with and affected by HIV had access to HIV treatment and food security. We invite you to be part of our projects and witness the transformative impact. With your support, we can continue strengthening the leadership capacities of young people, improving their operational capacity, fostering partnerships, and amplifying advocacy efforts. Together, we can make a lasting change in the lives of young people affected by HIV. Our success stories Zambia We provided support to the Zambia Youth Platform in their efforts to empower adolescent girls and young women (AGYW) to have a say in national advocacy agendas and become active participants in HIV spaces. AGYW played a crucial role in developing the National Adolescent Health Strategy for 2022-2026, where they shared their input and priorities in consultative meetings organized by the Ministry of Health. Their valuable contributions were incorporated into the National Strategic Plan review, which was submitted for Global Fund Grant Cycle 7 funding. AGYW also participated in national dialogues, advocating for better accessibility to HIV prevention packages and comprehensive sexuality education. Thanks to their empowerment, AGYW were represented at the regional PEPFAR COP23 meeting in South Africa. This success story underlines the impact of our HER Voice funding program, which overcomes obstacles to AGYW participation and helps shape policies, laws, and programs. END Join us today, donate now, and participate in the change. Support the cause and witness the impact.
