Mission Statement

Haribon Foundation is the pioneer non-profit environmental conservation organization in the Philippines. Our conservation work is focused on these four pillars: conserving sites and habitats, saving species, encouraging sustainability, and empowering people. Our work spans from the ridge (forests and mountains) to reef (marine ecosystems). We work closely with people with the vision of transforming every individual into biodiversity champions.

About This Cause

Hatched in 1972, the Haribon Foundation and the individuals it trained and nurtured were instrumental in the formation of other environmental organizations in the country. The niche of Haribon – developed over 45 years of scientific excellence and socio-economic research – is biodiversity conservation. The Foundation’s natural and social scientists continue to work with people from all levels of governance to develop sustainable resource management strategies. The name Haribon was coined from Haring Ibon or the Philippine Eagle. It was so named because the existence of the king of birds is a perfect barometer of the state of our forests.
