Mission Statement
Tiwala Kids & Communities is a charity in the Philippines, working among underprivileged children and families in the Bicol Region. Tiwala is the Filipino word for "trust." In order to help poor children and families, Tiwala runs various educational programs for children and parents such as student enrichment classes, tutorials, scholarship grants, digital learning (digi-eskwela), expressive arts classes, and parenting seminars and sessions.
About This Cause
Tiwala Kids & Communities seeks to build strong foundations in the lives of poor children and families by imparting biblical values, providing educational assistance, strengthening family relations, augmenting family income, and empowering communities. Projects: 1. Student Enrichment Program (STEP) Enrichment classes are designed to help improve the academic skills of children. The classes provide opportunities for poor children to learn about a variety of topics in fun and exciting ways. Topics include World of Wonders (Science Exploration Class), A Healthy Me (Health and Hygiene), Always Ready! (Disaster Preparedness), Tiwala Kids Honor Club (Value Formation Class), Expedition Earth (Culture and Geography Exploration Class). Classes are held in community halls inside slum villages and accommodate up to 30 students per session. STEP classes offer a different learning experience for poor students and fill some gaps in the education that they receive from public schools. 2. Scholarship Grants The Scholarship Program seeks to provide in-depth educational assistance to very poor children amongst those enlisted in our programs. The grant covers all school-related expenses, such as: uniforms, school supplies, and other incidental school fees. The scholar also receives school snacks as well as after-school tutorials and mentoring. 3. Digital Learning Digi-Eskwela is a supplemental education for poor children using a digital device (educational tablet). The project aims to increase the access of poor children to learning technologies that would lead to increased student engagement and academic success. Tiwala partners with public schools in implementing the project, and aims to improve the literacy and numeracy skills of poor children through the educational tablet platform. 4. Expressive Arts Project This program is designed to help children who either have challenging behaviors or who are facing difficult circumstances. In art therapy, children are given the chance to use art media as a primary mode of expression and communication. By allowing children to be creative and express themselves through art, the class sessions can help them experience the therapeutic benefits of art. 5. Family Strengthening Sessions Tiwala Kids & Communities conducts family strengthening sessions among the parents of our child beneficiaries so that the children would feel safe and truly loved at home.
