Mission Statement

No Shame Foundation was founded by a group of people who suffer from psoriasis and other skin problems. We are aware of many problems associated with having psoriasis, AZS or fighting acne. These are the problems not only of an aesthetic or physical nature of discomfort, but also mental disorders associated with skin diseases. One of our aims of running No Shame Foundation is primarily helping people who are experiencing problems with their skin. We would like to educate the patients on the ways of how certain conditions could be prevented, including, how to care for the skin, and present them with the types of treatments available. We also strongly promote mental support that is available out there. We want the patients to unite so that they could also support each other, share their experiences and build confidence in dealing with skin conditions. The second target group are healthy people who do not have access to a reliable source of information about the skin diseases. State institutions don’t provide comprehensive assistance either. Unfortunately, there is an evident lack of public awareness of different skin conditions. The misconception that certain skin diseases are contagious or caused by poor hygiene needs to be banished! The issue of discrimination and intolerance is a huge problem. It's important that people understand that psoriasis is not contagious. It's so poorly understood, given how many people suffer from this condition. Due to discrimination, patients feel a lot of discomfort and believe that they are being rejected by the society. People with psoriasis are often stared at and asked not to participate in certain activities because of the appearance of their skin. Some of them struggle to stay in long term relationships. For many patients, skin conditions are very troublesome as the treatment can be lengthy and might take weeks or even months. They are uncomfortable physically as well as mentally. They need help! To make a positive impact we would like to reach out to the public with basic information about diseases such as non-contagiousness of psoriasis or eczema, the genesis of different skins and the psychological issues faced by patients on a day-to-day basis. The discrimination against the people affected by skin conditions affects their wellbeing and leads to social exclusion. The patients themselves do not know where to obtain help from or where to find reliable information about available forms of treatment. Our goal is to provide comprehensive help to the patients on lifestyle changes, by promoting knowledge about prevention and treatment as well as mental support, which is often downplayed in the Polish health service. We will achieve our goals by disseminating information about the causes, types and treatment of skin diseases. In addition to that, we will run workshops and educational training sessions and events on skin diseases and topics around the disease. Our clients include primary and secondary schools and No Shame Foundation actively participates in social media in order to conduct social dialogue and break the taboo topic. We want to help patients through substantive practical, informational and psychological support and educate healthy people in order to develop empathy and tolerance towards people of different appearances.

About This Cause

No Shame Foundation was established in the 4th quarter of year 2019. Initial project involved cooperation with the University of Warsaw, where we worked on an Android application for psoriatic patients. The aim of the app was to connect patients directly with clinical institutions, in order to simplify the communication between the patient and the doctor. The work on the application is still in progress as it is a quite complex task. Currently, we conduct educational projects in Warsaw debunking taboos about skin diseases, by providing substantive and and also psychological support for people in need. We cooperate with such entities as: Clarena, Youth Human Impact, Quickshopping4you, Annel Ltd., K&K Day Spa, Arkadiusz Kasprzak - author of "Psoriasis Vulgarna"in order to continuously expand our audience. No Shame Foundation has private sponsors such as cosmetic companies from Poland and Taiwan, supporting the treatment of psoriasis and other skin problems. In order to reach the widest possible range, we have developed training courses for beauty salons and SPAs. We would like psoriatic patients to feel comfortable going to the hairdresser or for other beauty or aesthetic treatments knowing that they will receive adequate treatment, tailored to their skin needs. And, most importantly, we don’t want them to be refused any treatment! We also jointly develop a care treatment dedicated only to psoriatic skin. No Shame Foundation is quite active on social media like Facebook and Instagram, aiming to educate the entire Polish society and expand its knowledge about skin diseases. In addition, our daily activities include: - Educational projects in Podlaskie and Mazowiecki provinces of Poland (cooperation with secondary schools, social welfare centres, cultural centres) - Educational, European (youth exchanges, planning joint social campaigns with NGOs of other European countries) - Psychological support for foundation wards at the organisation's headquarters and it is also delivered online - Psychological and developmental workshops - Scalp research and care training - Building long-term cooperation with companies and beauty salons to educate on skin diseases and adapt the offers of these units to the needs of the patients.
