Mission Statement
Stowarzyszenie Miłość Nie Wyklucza – Love Does not Exclude – is a national non-governmental organization committed to introducing marriage equality in Poland. Our goal is to ensure the right to marry for all, regardless of their sexual orientation and gender identity.
About This Cause
Our association was founded in 2009 by a team of activists, volunteers, and allies committed to securing full equality for LGBT+ persons, especially in terms of their right to marry. Based in Warsaw, we work on a national level. Our legal experts wrote the marriage equality bill introduced to the Polish parliament in 2020, and civil union bills introduced to the Polish parliament in 2013 and 2018. Lobbying for equality and developing legal tools, we consult political parties and public institutions, write drafts of bills, and participate in press conferences, representing the voice of LGBT+ community. Our strategic goal is to achieve the introduction of a law on marriage equality for LGBT people in Poland by the year 2025. Furthermore, we are actively promoting social acceptance of same-sex couples in order to strengthen and stabilise the support rate for the idea of marriage equality. We are also working for building a grassroots civil movement supporting marriage equality. In order to meet our strategic goal, we have developed the Strategy for Introducing Marriage Equality in Poland for 2016–2025 with three operational goals: 1. Creating political will for introducing marriage equality (political lobbying, strategic litigation, educational trainings for politicians and lawyers, election monitoring, incorporating the idea of marriage equality into the human rights and defence of democracy movements) 2. Increasing public support for marriage equality (social campaigns, media cooperation, public opinion polls, increasing the visibility of LGBT persons in the public space, building a community of allies) 3. Increasing the potential of LGBT organisations (building a coalition of LGBT organisations, cooperating with non-governmental organisations, acting on the local and regional levels) We initiated strategic litigation by supporting the case of several Polish same-sex couples suing the Polish state in the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg. We published the first open-licensed "manual" on marriage equality in Poland: Marriage Equality. Beginners' Guide. It provides answers to frequently asked questions, and to arguments against same-sex marriage, explaining the possible consequences of introducing marriage equality. We have published reports on support and attitudes towards marriage equality in Poland, and qualitative reports on LGBT+ community in Poland. We work for strengthening the LGBT+ community and organisations in Poland, organising meetings of activists, and driving cooperation between different groups. We support the organisers of numerous pride marches in several cities all over the country. We also ensure visibility of LGBT+ community during public demonstrations for democracy and women's rights by running the "Rainbow for Democracy" campaign. We reach a community of over 75 thousand followers via social media.
